TE1DRIVER

Meccano Block and tackle

I'm trying to design a display peice to work with my traction engines, The idea being that the te1a will load logs into the open wagon by means of lifting gear.

I'm unsure of what parts i would need, I was also thinking of a clutch mechanism to disable the drive so i can leave the te ticking over or reverse it to lower a load.

Has anybody got any ideas?

Thanks in advance,

Liam

I made the clutch mechanism a while ago. In the following thread there are some pics of it.

Only problem is you need the spring axle shown in the build, which comes with the gear sets.

Another option for the clutch is simply 2 normal gears on 2 axles. One is hooked up to the drive, the other is free. When you push the axle on the free one, it meshes with the drive. Hard to explain

Here in this next thread take note of the 2nd pic and the 2 red arrows.

This is the central gearbox for the crane. The engine runs free, but when you push those axles in the direction of the arrows, it meshes the gearing, to lower or raise the crane hook

Try a search on ebay for meccano pulley block.

Here is a couple

I've dealt with meccanoman before, and he is great. He may even be able to help you out with the axle.

Good luck

Cheers Wallace gives me something to think about

After scouring ebay i have stumbled across a kit that will allow me to build a hand cranked crane, It would just be a case of replacing the hand crank with a straight crank and pulley and working out a clutch configuration.

This may indeed be the cheapest option if i go for the sliding axle clutch rather than the nicer dog clutch.

Sounds like a good idea.

Keep in mind you may want to look for a small job lot with a mix of axles pulleys gears. Only so you can gear it down, so when the engine is hooked up it doesn't operate the crane too fast.

The dog clutch is good, but does draw a fair bit of power. I like the sliding axles

thanks Wallace, I hadn't anticipated that cheers for your insight
