Meccano lookalike stuff. In the "cheap" shops over here, you can sometimes buy meccano type stuff. Junk made in China, but matches meccano, and is real cheap. Worth keeping a lookout for.
But here's some Australia "lookalike meccano".
It's excellents stuff, but not quite as dear as meccano here.
First, a Buz set, around 1948.

It's been restored by Dad, but I managed to get him to leave the box original. I printed a new label for him, old one was stuff, and he stuck it on without touching original.
And here's a EZY Bilt set, from the 1950's.
Again, box left original, but all stuff restored.

Yeah mate, you're right.
Not much difference at all, if any.
Only thing I've seen different is the Ezy bilt rectangle base plates have a slot in them. Kinda like 2 holes join together.
You can see one in the pic of ezy bilt that has the stell drive bands. Plate is in bottom left of box.

I'll double check with Dad it is a Ezy bilt trademark.
MTA, if you have a baseplate like that, with a bit of a longer, thinner slot, it's REALLY rare. Dad's got one only.
It's designed to take a sprocket through it, or make a table saw type setup.
