Meccano NO2. constructor car....

Anyone ever built one of these cars from scratch?  I have a few and decided tonight to build one, bloody hard work it is too.  Gave up only part done . 30's boy must have been made of stern stuff !!!!!!!!!!

Hi Sandy,

My only contact with the Car Constructor sets was to sell the parts that I had laying around. But I did not think they were difficult to assemble - are they?

Ralph, not difficult really, just the very fiddly 6BA nuts and bolts for clumsy adult hands!!

I can sympathise with that. I am sure you know but I will say it anyway a complete car set, in anything like good condition, is worth a lot of money - I have seen those cars fetch several hundred pounds -  so if you are not happy with it, ebay will make you a nice little sum to spend on something else - like a steam engine....

To me, along with the aeroplane constructor sets, they were just a toy made by Meccano and as such they are not part of the Meccano construction system. Having said that lots Meccano builders have them and especially the aeroplane sets seem to get used in conjunction with REAL  Meccano...

...not for me though

I actually would like one of the plane sets, but like you say Ralph they go for big money and I've got plenty of other things I would like to spend the money on first.

Saw one of those at a toy sale a couple of weeks back - It had a very nice complete box but only a few bits inside which were both wings and a few other small bits and this fetched over £100

Mr. M,

My interest is in Meccano, the construction toy. trading on the success of the construction set Meccano put their name to all manner of other toys. The cars and the aeroplane constructor sets were such items. Although some parts could be used in the construction system they were not really intended for that purpose but rather to be systems in their own right. Personally they do not interest me beyond the curiosity value.

We had a few bits of them a while ago that were handed down from Sue's Late father, along with a whole lot of Meccano. Although we kept all the Meccano we decided that someone else might appreciate the car and aeroplane sets so we put them on ebay seven or eight years ago as spares for £4.99...

They made hundreds! So we bought some more real Meccano   The boxes tend to make big money on their own. no matter what condition they are in.

We car constructors must never annoy the real hardcore meccano enthusiasts . !!!!!
I can understand why . !  Meccano is much too much hard work for a lazy git like me.!!

Merry xmas,  Sandy.

Sorry! I didn't mean to offend anybody - I was simply saying that the car constructor sets were made by Meccano and not part of the Meccano construction system...
