Meccano set picsAll the following is some of my old mans stuff. I didn't add it to the post with the number 10 set as there'd be too many pics.
All sets are 100% complete
A number 3 set from 60's
A number 4 set from the 70's
A french Number 4 set
A number 6 and 6a set from the 60's. A 6 and 6a set will make a 7 set. e.g a 7 and a 7a set will make an 8 set.
No pics of contents here as these 2 sets, along with a number 7a set have made the crane I put a pic of in another post
A number 8 set from the 70's
And it's contents
What set Dad calls his "L" set. This is just all spares, and it has absolutely EVERYTHING. He uses this to lend me stuff and to make newly bought sets complete. There was such a thing as a L set too.
And finally a "job lot" he got. This is almost a number 9 set, and soon will be, and has a lot of parts.

Some of the pictures didn't come up Wallace! but they look very very nice indeed . Does he use the sets? or are they just collection ones that remain unused?

Thanks guys, I'll try get the pics working
Yeah he uses them, as needed. His hands are a little shaky now, so he takes a while to build models. Not good when the bolts and nuts are so small
He is planning on building much more.
Spent most of his time so far getting the sets together.

Fantastic sets Wallace - I think it will fire a few individuals minds on here now!
Got out some old Meccano plans last night - from the No. 4 set I think - its good to read the section on construction techniques, very informative.

In the last pic, with the big blue ring, the balck wheel/sprocket looking thing to the bottom left is actually a 2 part thing that has large ball bearings in a groove for rollers, so it's like a turntable.
Same from around 1960's I think as it's same colour as the one in Dad's 10 set.
Anways, I'm wondering if that design come from Geoff Malins turntable he made. The one in the bible? It was one of the things he made and had a competition running for kids to make a model using it

Geoffrey Malins didn't patent it - so it was a fair cop! Come to think of it he didn't have any patents to his name!

Wow, I didn't know that.
Might have to check out some of Dad's earlier parts lists to get an idea of when it came in.
