Meccano threads?

Does anybody know what the standard Meccano thread is? It doesn't fit any of my BA, BSF, BSW or ISO-Metric taps or dies. Is it a standard thread or is it unique to Meccano?

5/32 BSW according to this website
http://members.shaw.ca/meccano/mecpart.html
and this PDF

Unless it was made in the US and then its something else

As a 1st year engineering apprentice, I seem to remember investigating Meccano threads some 50+ years ago.

The outcome was, 5/32 Whit.
BUT with nothing like the tolerances we were expected to work to in the apprentice shop!

Thanks folks

OK, does anybody know anywhere I can buy 5/32 BSW taps and dies? All the suppliers I've tried have 1/8 and 3/16 but nothing in between.
Chris

A google search gave this place...

http://www.tapdie.com/

The website claims they have them.

Typing 5/2 whitworth tap into google gives several other places you could try.

Thanks again. That's another one to go on my list. Pity they don't offer ordering on line. They don't allow CC ordering by email and I just realised I can't even fax the order since I got broadband. A backwards step IMHO!
Chris

Just like to point out that I have never ordered from them so I don't know if they are any good.

If you still have an old modem you should be able to set your pc up as a fax machine.

Maybe there are other sites that have online ordering but I didn't look at the other results from the google search.

They are good. I posted my order on Thursday and got the goods on Saturday - and that's by SnailMail both ways! I'd be impressed with that even if ordered on line. The bits look good quality at a reasonable price and they have a good range. I'm definitely keeping them in my good books.

Good stuff. Have you tried them out to make sure they work with the meccano?
