Meet barry1946

I thought as I became a member of the forum in August 2006 my 'meet the member' page was rather overdue!
My name is Barry Evans (age 60), and I now live in Dumfries & Galloway (southwest Scotland) after taking early retirement from Special Education in Co. Durham. I now spend my time gardening, bird watching and dog walking (Border Collie naturally), with a little bit of supply teaching now and again to fund my interest in live steam. I have a garage which no car will ever fit as it is fitted out as a workshop with an antique Myford lathe, pedestal drill, buffer/grinder etc. I started steaming though the usual route of collecting / restoring Mamods but have lately been able to indulge in a few Stuart projects, an S50 mill engine - now completed, and a V10 under construction. Waiting in the wings is a Cotswold Heritage 'Strothert & Pitt' beam engine kit. I have examples of most Mamods, and a 'set' of SEL engines, some restored and some as we dream of finding them!
I think the forum is great - - a big thanks is due to James for getting it rolling and a well done to the team of moderators who keep it steaming in the right direction!

Hi Barry, nice to know you.

Sounds like your workshop is the place to be.

Any pics would be great, I'm particularly fond of the SELs, so any pics of them would be appreciated.

SE4

No SE4 I'm afraid MM. I've got most stationary engines plus TE1, TE1a, SR1, a couple of cars and green and blue lorries. I don't have any of the buses, fire-engines or later cars, I prefer the "old" favourites! I confess to a few Wilescos - a stationary and an "Old Smokey".
Glad the washers were OK.

Nice collection Barry, we may need some pictures though

Washers are/were spot on as always it's difficult to get them for a good price and in large quantity

Hello Barry. Sounds like a very nice collection!

Your garage sounds great, nothing beats having the right tools! Any pics of the mill engine?

Hi Barry. Great to hear from you. Welcome to the forum.

I see you've settled just down the road from me.
Lovely part of the country.

I live in Ayrshire about one hour away.

I envy your workshop.

Happy steaming.
