Ooo!
Got a link?
I'd like to build up a kit like, and put a mini Lincolnshire flag on the back instead of American, and call it a Lincolnshire name (naa, not "Meyart")

Thanks mate!!
But... which model would you go for?
the fantail?
The Elliot Bay?
Which looks more English out of the 2?

Jimbo, I love the Fantail - but it's a bugger to build! The Elliott Bay has the advantage of a premade hull, no messing around with wood and fibreglass tissue.

Hmmmm!!
The Elliot one is bigger?
How much does that one cost?
Does it need the bigger engine to power it?

Hi James,
Here's another link.
http://naturecoast.com/hobby//midwest.htm
They are out of stock on the Elliot Steam Bay Launch at the moment but their kit does include the paint. I bought mine from Tower Hobbies,( fastest shipping I've ever had here), for the same price, but no paint
You need the kit, the Heritage Steam Engine, the RC unit and the RC extension piece. This will cost around $300.
Folks like us out in the sticks, where there is no model shop, also have to buy fast acting CA adhesive, RTV, paint etc.
Good Luck,

The Midwest engines are very cheap, just over $50 on ebay. I have thought about buying the engine just because it's so cheap.

And I think the only difference between the two models is wood trim and the more expensive one is pre-assembled....? maybe

I think so....also I think that in the "Heritage" preassembled engine the engine frame is brass rather than cast alloy. Doesn't make a blind bit of difference in the engine performance I think as the self-build engine runs in brass bushes.
The self-build engine's a breeze to build for anyone who can do a bit of soldering....no machining at all required, and the build manual is very clear.

Is this what you are after Nick.

Ooo!!
I still don't know whether to get the Elliot one or the Fantail

I'd go for the Elliot James-ready made hull

Elliot Bay indeed, the old fan tail is rather pernickety, perhaps that's why i've done no more than lay the keel! I did build the engine though, it's a pleasing little thing and simple to knock together. I'll see if i have any pics.
Here's another option. The Krick Anna.

No import taxes on that one and a good price really.

Is it a kit? I can't be bothered to translate ATM
Is it the engine and boat together?

No engine in that one i'm afraid! This one does have an engine though, getting a little dearer now... 195 pounds

It's a wilesco engine. Here's the engine on its own. This is expensive i feel 142 pounds

You'd probably be best off waiting for a wee steam plant on ebay and retro fitting it. Make sure there's enough space though!

Oo looks good!
But for like £80 I can buy the Midwest engine & boat, which is like £115 cheaper

Urrrrgh. I only just noticed that it's partially built. Here's hoping the soldering is ok.

Hi,
Allot depends on what you want to use the finished model for and the water available. The Elliot Bay and Mid West Fan Tail are small slim boats, will have to be cautious how and where you use them. Although I think that the Elliot Bay is the best looking by far!!
My bet would be go with the Krick Anna, a much beamier and more practical boat. It will need a higher power output plant, to drive it, but will be a better boat in the long term in that it will be more seaworthy and give better reward for build time and expense.
I fancy a Krick Anna, with a Wilesco V twin, or preferably a small Chedder unit, if I can find one without bringing the Bank of England down.
That's my take on it

Sounds good! Thanks!
I would only really use it at STIA, cos there is nowhere around here to sail (apart from the Trent and the Gymes - and I don't fancy either ).

james, I'd be willing to send you my midwest engine for a price.
I'd sell you the boiler and engine. Just have to reconstruct a boiler holder from brass.
Pm me if interested
