Might be of interest to you loco people...Me uncle told me that somewhere he has got a photo of the crew of 7 that used to work at the old Stow Park station in Lincolnshire. On the photo, is my great grandad, who was the signal man (the box is still there and in service).
Once, the Flying Scotsman went on a tour of the world and Britain (I reckon), and the bloke who owned/drove it were from Sturton By Stow, Lincolnshire, which is about a mile or two from Stow Park. So the Scotsman were parked up at the station taking on water while he walked home! I wish he were still alive, he could tell me a story or two! And would have let me have a go on the Scotsman
The route were LNER I think, and there were another going to the fuel dump for RAF Scampton and Waddington and all them
Just a bit of random history!!
Maybe that's where I got my love for steam from??

I don't think it did a tour of the world, just America and Australia I have a pictorial history on Flying Scotsman amongst my books, signed by Alan Pegler who saved her from the scrap merchant
I think I may have got my love of steam in the same way as you James, as my great grandfather was a driver on the main line

Just read up on that, if it were not for 'Bill' McAlpine it might still be in the states today
The observation coach certainly didn't return! That has only recently just been repatriated and is currently being assesed before restoration can start to return it to running order to be used on the Swanage Railway. Apparently the exhibiton train didn't fair very well when it was stored in the open and the paintwork and interiors being ruined by the weather
More info on the repatriation of the observation coach here:
