just got to try my millie and on the first run it ran like a charm but didnt like 1 of the gradients on my line so it was shut down and put on a siding while I regraded that section of line but when I lit it up again the fire went under the cab and destroyed the coupling before I noticed and when we tried to fire it again after that the same thing happened again and again and again. so we have put it back in its box and are going to phone roundhouse tomorrow I must say I find this extremely depressing.

I suspect the gas burner isn't igniting properly.
When you put a lighter to the chimney/over the boiler with the gas turned on, does it make a 'pop' sound? Such as here:
If not, then it isn't igniting properly...
pauly
yes we know this but everytime we light it the flames fly out the back under the cab.

get on the phone to roundhouse and tell them what happened and i am quite sure they will be able to solve whatever the problem is and will probably be as surprised as you were. do say feel free to say no but may we have a picture of whats happened.

Sorry to read that here is another loco that will not run straight out of the box.
I have commented before about the lack of any deflectors for most of the gas burners available to fit in the Mamod/MSS locos, and the fact that this could lead to blowback into the cab area, melting the sight glass.
Are you using Butane only gas, as I've read elsewhere that this is what Roundhouse recommend? I've previously used a Butane/Propane mix on my gas burners, but recently managed to find a local supplier of Butane only gas. Other question is was it windy outside (difficult to tell from your photos), and did you try it indoors (or will your parents not allow that)?
The good news is I've read that Roundhouse have a very good customer service department.

pauly

DLR
i am more surprised that they forgot to post it than the loco not working

Roundhouse have always given me great customer service and I'm sure they will sort it out for you.
Sounds like a problem with the burner or gas leaking from a joint that is not done up tight.
When I was building my Lady Anne I received a faulty part and rung them up and they just sent me a replacement part no questions ask the day after I called.
Keep us all updated with what happens.

Have you sorted 'Millie' out yet??
pauly
yes she just had a loose nut in the gas line.

Seems that this is becoming the excepted standard these days, with models being sent out by various Manufacturers, where the new owner has to fix some fault that should have been picked up in a quality control line prior to dispatch.
