Mint Mamod SE3 for sale by IndianaRogWell guys, I have decided to find a Mamod TE1 to join the Temple of Steam that is my basement workshop/display area.
As shelf space (and funds) are limited, I've decided NOT to fire or ruin my SE3 by mounting it to a walnut plinth...I have decided to sell it instead.
I will list it on my website for sale through Sat. Feb. 24th...if no bites I will put it on eBay Sat. evening.
I'm not giving it away , but I will ship for FREE to the UK, Canada, US and a modest $20 ship fee to Australia. NO other countries, sorry (unless you beg me). Pictures and price can be found at my website:
http://www.indianarog.com/mamodse3forsale.htm
Thanks for giving it a look see...I promise to pack it like I wish to have incoming engines packed...it will arrive in same shape as I send it.

Beautiful engine Rog.
I've seen the brass burner with the more common red wooden handle, sometimes the white handle. Never seen it with a black handle. Anybody got any info on this?

Maybe the black handle burner was something designated for the export market??

Early ones were white and a little bulkier, the next ones were like yours, final handles were made of red plastic.

When did the red wood come in Mike?

That's spot on!
Don't forget, the SE3 lamp was originally much larger than the later SE3 ones

Larger one, with chrome sides and brass ends
Smaller all brass version with red handle

The change is obviously in the length. But, presumably, there is no change to boiler length. So, why?

No idea Yosa, smaller versions were cheaper?
The big ones seemed not to be all brass as the smaller ones.

Probably cost as you say Mike.
Mine is the shorter version, one with handle missing.
Just on the subject of burners, MM, did you ever find that spare SP1 burner? I'd like a chance to buy it if you did mate.

Yes I did! got it. Not original, only difference is the handle
another piccy of the SE3 burner with black handle, I like the look of them.

Not bothered about the original handle mate. The one I bought is too wide even to fit.
Do you want to pm a price mate and you7've got a deal?

Guys, for what it's worth, I just measured the burner on the SE3 I am selling...brass burner itself is 3.5" in length and about 7/8" square (left/right/top/bottom).
Handle with knob is 3" overall long and the black handle is definitely wood, NOT plastic and from all appearances an original feature...burner has never been used.
So...total burner from tip of handle to end of brass burner is 6.5" long.

MM said....
James has one on his , I've either got one or had one. Unsure whether i've sold it, I think I have.
They are just black plastic, I much prefur the wooden handles, they tend to melt less
It's a fabulous engine IR, can't understand why you want to sell it. I can't afford it, but they are going SILLY on ebay at the moment. One did 100 recently, worse than yours too!
I don't think I need an 8th SE3 but i'd love to have that one wonderful condition
MM...decided to sell my SE3 as I like to operate every piece in my collection. Other than this SE3, I have NO unfired stuff. It has been staring at me from a shelf for 2 months now since I got it and it was either going to get fired as is, get remounted on walnut AND fired...or passed on to someone else who would want such an example and want to keep it unfired. AND, I started lusting for a TE1 and only so much play money...so that's why it's up for sale.
cheers,
Rog

It is a fine example Rog, it should get snapped up, if not on here certainly on Ebay.

Thanks Yosa, the SE3 needs to be in different hands than mine...I will bugger with it if I keep it too long

There must have been two types then, mine was plastic i'm sure of it
I guess it fits:
Red wooden handle, red plastic handle
Black wooden handle, black plastic one

Mint SE3 sold, Stuart Beam boughtHi Graham,
Yes, my mint SE3 sold over the weekend via eBay, for $212 USD, a bit more than 100 GBP. Sold to a gent in the UK, so it will be repatriated!!
I in turn grabbed a nice Stuart Beam from the UK over the weekend, so the balance of trade between UK and US is a bit in the UK's favor at the moment!!! The "Temple of Steam" will be getting a bit of housecleaning via eBay as of this coming Sat. to help pay for that Stuart, but I am chuffed as you would say at the prospect of such a nice piece of engineering heading this way.
cheers,
Roger
ps...nice pic of you and the missus!!

Nice one Rog, a good price for the buyer, it was an excellent SE3.
Good news about the Stuart, you'll have to put some pics up when you get it.

Thanks guys...sorry to see the SE3 go in a way (just boxed it up)...but my genetic defect for needing to resurrect wrecks to "blueprint" like condition (I like that term)...means I would be better finding an SE3 in sad shape, and then give it the treatment.
Also I WAS going for a TE1, but had to bail on it when I got the Stuart Beam which is such an awesome piece, but I will be doing some additional selling to offset it's cost that's for sure. Nothing more certain than collection turnover when a pretty face catches your eye. I expect if MM gets that SE4 on Sat., we might see an engine or two of his hit the auctions...hope for his sake it doesn't take a Ford engine !!!
cheers,
Rog
