Mississippi SteamboatA bit cheeky, I know, posting this in the boat section, alongside such illustrious craft as Topaz
But, it does float & closest I'm ever likely to get, to owning a steam-powered boat Besides, I was never going to post in this section otherwise
I recently purchased this rather worse-for-wear USE Mississippi steamboat pop-pop on ebay UK. Sadly, the kit had been badly put together initially & paddle wheel all askew but impossible to unglue without breakage. Hull wasn’t even watertight but several coats of silicone & paint later, she was ready to test in the water. Didn’t want to put Esbit directly into pop-pop engine & used a small Stirling burner but only room for half an Esbit. Think it could go faster with more & wanted to try but found my ‘Mississippi had suddenly dried up! Yes, a hole in the plastic that will be remedied shortly. Not that it would look right going too fast….
You are invited aboard for a gentle cruise down the mighty Mississippi, that has suddenly & mysteriously relocated to southern France (but I promise to give it back! )

Great video, and superb transformation, Alicia.
How do you steer her? She seems so graceful in the water.

A nice restoration but it looks strange moving along without the paddle turning! I'd be tempted to have a go at fixing it. What's the paddle made of and do you know what glue was used? (I'm assuming that it's supposed to turn and doesnt because it's distorted.)

No, it was never meant to turn & is only for show, barely touching the water. But agree that it is somewhat disastifying. I did soak the glue in hot water & managed to get the hull apart that way without breakage but could tell it would be impossible with the wheel
