at first I wondered if it was even running! you could run that in the middle of the night right next to the person sleeping and not wake them! AMAZING!

You should hear or should I say not hear his D20

John the second D-20 (your old one) is a kitten now.....She runs so well.

That is so quiet and it doesn't want to dance anymore.
Steve_S
What a difference that makes!
Sandman
Jeez. You'd swear that was two different engines.
ozsteamdemon
Great work there Jim .
With the reduction of noise , efficiency and output must be up , too .
IndianaRog
Jim, you ought to think about offering a "rehab shop service"...folks could send you their noisy, rattling engines and you could turn them into precision machines.
The difference is amazing !!!

I think the noise and rattle is part of the charm of these engines.
Wallace
That's really neat
Dr. Rog
Great job
Some engines are just too worn not to retore. Toy engines are not designed to be run hundreds of times, just until the child becomes bored. These techniques add enourmously to the life of engines. I am watching very closely.

This engine was mint-unfired days before the Tune up....I got it new from Gil.
It was stock when I started

Jim... I should send you the engine part of the D21. I almost think it is a lost cause!!
I keep eyeballing that D20 engine only on ebay... (just can't afford it!)
You have made that MM2 a sweet runner!!
metalhead100
Go ahead Owen....I will fix it for free my friend.
I would be thrilled to do it.I even offer to pay return shipping!
I could bench run it off my 1400 watt boiler ...
As for the D-20 replacement engine on ebay ,It will be just as bad....
And yes insane price.I asked them if they would take less....and NO...
They want more than I paid for either D-20 I have.

One for the purists
I have some pretty worn engines, one old vertical has maybe 20thou of rattle in its crankshaft due to wear. It definately needs metalhead-type bearings.
