More stuff from O's Steam shopHi All! More creations from my warped mind
This is the condensor stack I made, am making a couple of others as well. No two will ever be the same. Everything I make is one of a kind.
I have tested this, and it works great! I also have not finished polishing it.
I made it so the top comes off, this way I can clean the sludge out of it. I may be offering some of this sort of thing for sale in the very near future!
Steamyjim really felt I should put up some pictures of this rig. I put a lot of work in to that housing, and it works perfectly. The light post is a Marx train accessory from the 30's. The only problem is... that generator needs to be spun at 7 to 10000 RPM to produce any real power. The most I can get out of it when running it with the 21 at full speed and 18+/- PSI of steam is 1 volt, and 200mA
Its an RC car motor, high torque, about 8 volts. I forgot that those things spin REALLY fast.
Toy steam engines don't.
I suppose that the T90 turbine hooked up the right way would work. Using the dremel to spin it, it will light that tower, and that is rated for 12 volts. I was getting 8 volts, and.... get this.... 1.9amps . Yes... 1.9AMPS. No way I can get those RPM's out of anything I own, but at least it looks good, and is great for keeping a load on the engine. 21 runs much better when its pushing this.
I had to throw in this one, cause this is the coolest Flea market find ever.
Neon!
Steam is in white, the anchor is blue, with a gold rope around it
Enjoy!

That Neon is so Cool! The condensate stack is cool too, I think that would go well with a Jensen 25 or 75. As far as the Marx light, there are small can motors that might do just the trick. All great ideas and very creative.

I plan to put LEDs in the light tower. I have the small cassette motors that put out about 5 volts, so those will do fine.
But this sure does LOOK cool.
The sign is the coolest thing I found at the Flea lately. It was brand new in the box!
I tested the condensate stack on the D20. Worked fine. I think this will work on anything you can attach it to.

Great ideas, and good to see that members of the forum are keeping up the tradition of ingenuity and resourcefulness.
There is so much talent here, and this thread is a perfect example of that.
Well done Owen.

Owen, your "chuff stack" as they have come to be known is really beautiful, nice work!! As for your generator, you need to look at the cheap can motors, they put out a fair amount of voltage without spinning at 10,000 rpms!!!
Also the light bulbs in your tower could be real power drains. I would suggest either LED's or a pair of GE352X bulbs which operate on the relatively low output of a Meccano type can motor. Choice of bulb can make or break these little generators and our relatively low steam speeds.
Have fun...looks like you already ARE!!

I am lovin' life for sure. I already plan to get LEDs, I have a smaller motor that will give me about 5 volts. I will use LEDs so I should be able to have several light poles with out too much trouble. I am going to convert the Marx tower to LED. I kept the tower because I like it. Its value is of no relevance.
But the dynamo looks cool, and provides a nice load when running the engines. I want to try it on the 12!
