My "speech"Sorry I gotta do this it could be boring
Prior to 2006 I had only been a member of non steam forums, mostly car related and even related to my job then of greenkeeping.
I found them to either be 1 or all 3 of the following
* A few main people that ignored others or talked down to others
* Constant fighting and swearing
* Virtually no posts
Hence when I joined the original forums in 2006 I used the name Wallace, thinking I'd get on, ask my questions, then never visit again expecting it to be 1 or some of the above.
Ok, it got shut down but it lead to this forum. What a great place it's been and makes me wish I'd used my name for my username
Too late now I guess.
Anyway, never did I expect it to lead to events like this weekends STWWW. I know theres 1000's of forums out there, but none as great as this where people from all over the world can share friendship and a passion for this hobby.
Yesterday I got called into work. Our chipper broke down and in the middle of nowhere we had to wait for an hour. The boss slept off a hangover in the truck, the others tried to make wood carvings in tree stumps, but I found myself eager to use my phone checking the tables. Never would I have expected that. At a property in the bush needing my fix on this forum.
Time for me to log off.
Great show by everyone. I know I'll still be browsing tables and watching pics for the next few evenings... at least a week.
Thank you to all the members, the forum team, judges, prize donors for making this the best STWWW ever. While it seems impossible I'm sure next years will be even better.
Well done and thanks for a great weekend.

I can only echo your comments Andrew, this is a great forum, with very helpful members. Here, unlike some other forums, you aren't put down, because you have little knowledge to start with, that's just one small thing that makes the forum so friendly.
Cheers

I forgot to say, my reason for joining the original forums was to ask for instructions how to run a SE2a.
Not only did I not know how to run it, but I had no intention of one engine purchase for something different was to become a hobby.
Even when I did run it I thought I had to control the burner by pulling it out of the firebox to control the engine and the S/V was a last resort
So besides being done with other non steam forums, I was a REAL newbie. So thought I'd get my answer then not log on again.

Well said Andrew and it wasn't a bit boring - I agree with every word of it. This forum is different in so many ways - all good. I don't think any other forum can get anywhere near matching the STWWW.

I agree Andrew, i'm a member on a speedway forum and this i just like you said, people moaning, putting other people down, virtually no posts. I joined that one about the same time as i joined here, i think i've made 11 posts on there, look at my post count on here, it just shows what helpful and friendly members we have,

Andrew, I think you put into words what many of us feel...thank you for that!
NOW...who says you can't mod your forum name into something more to your liking.
- Andrew
- Andrew of OZ
- OZ Andrew
The possibilities are endless...you won't lose your actual identity, we'll know it quickly!

I could not agree more. I feel I have friends here, which is not something I've been able to say on most other forums.

Well said, no enemies, only decent friendly people who don't criticise you when you make a mistake or say something that sounds daft,

I'm glad no-one found it boring. Cheers guys.
Rog I had considered changing it. I can't use Andrew, as Andrew said it's taken
I considered AndrewG or OZAndrew.
I'll see
Roly, I agree nothing wrong with Wallace, just felt actual name would be a bit better,
I might leave it to avoid confusion.
Thanks again

Nothing wrong with Wallace. A cracking name for steam. Hang in there!
I agree with your sentiment.
My only complaint is a compliment. After browsing through a mass of interesting reading, It is hard to revisit an entry again as there is so much fine content disguising it.

I totally agree with you Andrew. I too have joined many forums, as like you, I joind car forums, tropical fish, birds (feather kind), and even teardrop caravan forum. I found the majority of them to be ignorant. Ask a question, and it will not get answered. Reply to some and your comments are sometimes sneered at. One forum only liked pictures posting of what you were making and didnt like reading much. When I joined this forum, I was thinking "just another forum where I can find some info and not ask so many questions, just like the others". But, no, I was wrong and it turned out to be the best forum I have joined. I chat with members and have also met some. I was welcomed and my first few postings were not answered like the other forums attitude of "oh no, here is a nother newbie just wanting a few answers without looking through old posts".
So I say a BIG thankyou to the forum and all the members for making this place a place to be.

Iv been a member of quite a few forums now, a couple started out kinda like this place.
Friendly and open but gradually they all began to boil down to a core group of ignorant self absorbed assholes who couldnt care less if you didnt do things there way, even worst if these people where moderators or even the admin!
Nothing worse than returning to an old haunt which you remember as being so vibrant, busy, colourful and populated by a wide range of interesting people only to discover that its become a rundown mess inhabited by inbreds who dont want you there.
But this place has only improved with age!
