My first Mamod restoration

My flatbase-mamod had arrived.
So i went on and tried a restoration.
Many of you will now expect a shiney new-looking mamod.
I'm sorry, you will not see anything like that...

I just made a very small restoration. I just oiled the engine a lot, took it apart and back together. No polishing at all.....
Just whiped off the crud and the old oil and things...

I really like the shiney look of the cylinder, although it is almost brown...but still glossy and not corrodet
OLD

Note: I have a problem with the SV...
The rubber is gone, and I do not know if i can take the SV apart??
Any ideas?

You just need a small 'o' ring, slip it over the top and it's done

Looks really good. 1948-53 that one

Conservation not restoration at its finest, no need to do anything more it looks great. Well Done

Well done, Mirko! An engine with a history - which you have preserved. Gut gemacht!

Does that mean the SV can't be taken apart?

Best not to Mirko, think it can be done by compressing the end that goes into the boiler then recompressing it, but no need to undo as the slip on method works fine.

For spares try Barry1946 , think he will have the O rings for you.

Very nice work well done, looks great, it will go faster than your Bing, but tends to spit a bit more

Allright
I just asked..better than trying to take something apart that shouldn't be taken.

Yes! I just steamed her right after "conservation!
That's why I realized the problem with the SV
Mamodman123

They come apart fine, but there isn't any need
Steve_S

Mirko, you have done a nice job of conserving the original finish on that one, a real classic that should run beautifully.  Do PM member Barry1946...he's got all the washer types for Mamod and sells a nice little tool to compress the SV and easily replace the O ring.
Wallace

Excellent job Mirko.

Cleaned up very nicely.

Been well looked after through it's life, and am glad to see you won it
Graham-Jilly

very nice Mirco well done great conservation
would love one of those to complement the se1 and se2 that I have
Minor1PJG

I very fine engine there Sir.

You will obtain a longer run with the original two wick burner.

Your burner is for the MM1 there

Yes, already heard it's the wrong burner
This small burner is also faulty..the meth-pipe to the wick has got a crack...got to solder that up

Doesn't suprise me
Mister Occlusion

Nicely done.

Had rotten rubber on the SV of both of mine.  I just went to an auto parts store and bought a selection of the smallest o-rings they had.  You've got to stretch the smallest one possible over the top of the SV, otherwise they tend to get one side blown out by the pressure and leak.
