My first Meccano projectWith the Meccano I have recently purchased, and still purchasing!, I plan to make this:
I am probably going to invest in a larger stationary engine, if the MM1 can't take the strain, if it can't, I'll use the TE1A until I find a suitable replacement.
|

Minor 2 perhaps.

A WILESCO!! they have speed control and are more powerful. a wilesco roller can pull 10kg whereas a mamod tractor can pull 3 pounds

Yes good idea, then the Wilesco tractor can take the load from the carts in a trailer straight to SM's house.

use the loco mobile!
have tanks full of guinness on the trucks and then deliver ti to sandmans house steely!

That's what I was trying to say. The locomobile will probably get there on one tank of water.

Aye.
I would like to have a Wilesco mobile one day to see what they're like.
Good luck with the project MTA lets see if it gets done now.

Come on guys!
Use a mamod stationary, thats what they are for!!!!!
I don't think a TE1a or a locomobile will look very nice sat under that.
Mamod and meccano are a match made in heaven!

We can't argue with that James.

I'm going to make the underside hollow, and fit a pipe from the chimney upto the side of the winding house. I will use the Locomobile, as James said, speed control and power! Where'd the idea of guinness and SM come from????????

the locomobile?

Me and James came up with the guiness because you said they were something to with beer.

oh, I can see where you have become confused, I am cosmetically restoring a loco that worked in the Guinness Brewery, and SM volunteered to help! MM: I am using the Locomobile as it is the most powerful loco I have, plus it has speed control and the pressure is more controllable, plus it is what is known as a portable, basically a stationary on wheels!

An SE3 would sit under there and do the job a lot easier! probably for longer aswell
Try the minor one first though MTA! you've got nothing to lose!

It came to me that I cant use the MM1 because the trucks have to go up AND down, and the MM1 only runs in one direction, so I need any Mamod engine that runs in both directions!

I was thinking that MTA, but i thought you had a cunning device set up. Maybe, you could somehow pull it up the hill with the Minor 1. Then switch the drive over to a Meccano built countershaft?
|
MTA

will need a braking system of some sort Or I could fit gearing that could reverse the drive, like a clutch or something

Yes you will need some sort of clutch, well Wallace will be able to help there for sure!
I think adding a clutch, and more gears will be more fun than buying a reversing engine

The one SM bought was a 3.99 buy now at some point I think, I considered buying it, but didn't bother in the end, as I only needed one more axel
When do you plan to get this project finsihed by then MTA?

by the way, I've just put my MSS loco back together, the top right hand screw on the left hand cylinder block was quite tricky to put back in, as I had to slip the bolt over the thread, and its quite tight in there! I'm going to see if the proper MSS tablets give a longer run than the Mamod ones

It's all a tight fit. You are refering to the one that screws into the reverse/forward block?
Just have to make sure it's all lined up properly
not sure if the mss tablets will be any better. Let me know, because i'm firing my blue loco on tablets.

I see. Make sure the screws are done up really tight around the pistons, otherwise you will loose pressure around the gaskets before they get into the cylinders
Good luck with it MTA, let us know. Maybe a picture in steam?

I was surprised that MSS now put their tablets in re sealable bags Better than the Mmaod ones where you cant put them back in the box as the wrapping doesnt go back the way it was

Well they do go back in, you ease them up like a cigarette, then take as many as you need. No need to take the whole bag out the box
The ones I have are 1980's ones anyway

the old tablets do become quite brittle, so when you try to separate them, they do indeed crumble and break

dosent matter they go in the burner easer and light quicker when they are broke up

When I fired the SP2 the broken bits of tablet started to shake themselves out of the burner, and continued to burn on my base
Still can't stand them!

do that on my sr1a they make a mess of the paint dont they

They turn it black
Shouldn't use solid fuel burners on older engines either! can melt the paint on the bases for some reason

Lewis

thats poor it should be heat proof
|
Mamodman123
|
| lewisop1991 wrote: | | thats poor it should be heat proof |
I don't think they were designed for something to be burning so hot and so close to the base.
The meths flame is usually way above the base, solid fuel is practically touching it
|
Lewis

aye plus solid fuel make the crome tarnish even quicker

Fair enough MTA I agree with the Bowmans, they are wonderful machines. Engineering in toy steam engines has gone way down hill!
