My First SR1Got my first SR1 a week ago.
Still yet to steam it and clean it.
65-66 model, so it matches my TE1, which is good. Also got the box, which is a little tatty, but still ok.
And yes, I know the whistle is in the safety valve hole
The whistle is stuck, and haven't tried hot water or any other remedy yet. Going to use the "ice" on it, hot water, and steam it, then try whistle.
If it doesn't move, it's staying there. This is one thread I'm not going to break
Will get more pics up when I clean it up. Just had no spare time to do anything lately

Besside the whistle and safety valve swicth it loks in pretty good condition and should clean up well.
Be ready for it when you steam it they move a lot faster than the Te1s.
Thats the third mobile I've seen this week with whistle and safety valve swapped around, most be the new trend.

I'm really looking forward to the cleanup.
Perhaps people are just copying the boxes for whistle and s/v swap, as that's what it shows.
In any case, I'm not too worried if it doesn't come out, won't make a difference.
So they are quite a lot faster than a TE at full noise? I have heard that before. Wonder why though?

Wallace, the whistel in the safety valve hole will make it easier to use! One of the main reason Mamod changed to the sprung type was the danger of getting burnt fingers operating it. The SR1 was depicted in many 60s ads with the safety valve/whistle swopped around. Personally I think it will be better there. The one minor down side is that the heat from the lamp beneath the boiler may affect the safety valve rubber more quickly.
Looking forward to the cleaned up version!

It is a bit smaller, maybe the long Te1a boiler leaches heat away from water so you dont maintain as much pressure, dont know exactly why just that it goes a lot quicker than my Te1a and those rollers make a lot of noise on the lino.

Cheers for that guys.
Mike, I don't mind the look of it there either, that's why I'm not going to try too hard on the removal on it.
Would absolutely kick myself if I broke thread.
A am really looking forward to doing the cleanup on it.

It looks really good Wallace
Don't panic about that whistle there. Those threads are extremley strong on the SR/TE boilers. I've never had one go, and i've had a few with stuck valves
They don't go that much faster than the TE1, it's noticeable. Possible because there is no steam regulator? or running, it could be a lighter machine.
I'd suggest firing it to remove the whistle, I prefur the whistle at the back really, I just think it looks better. From a running point of view it won't make any difference. As mike said, the washer would have to stand more heat at the back
Should clean up nicely anyway!

Nice one Wallace.
As already said, I don't think the whistle/safety valve swap is an issue, it looks fine.
Happy steaming mate.

Nice one Wallace, that'll clean up a treat.
The aluminium wheeled SR's a quite a bit lighter than the Mazak wheeled 1a's, this may factor in them being slightly faster.
They are definitely good runners though.

Very nice Wallace. Should clean up no problems. I never think you can go far wrong with a good spray of WD40. Hope you get the safety valve and whistle sorted.

Looks great mate, with ads & other members seeing the whistle placed where it is, on other SR1's, and the fact that it's stuck I'd leave it where it is. As Spokesman said, it's also easier to operate from there.
Cheers

Less water in the boiler, lighter wheels, no canopy, no regualtor! Still the TE1 is no slouch

Cheers for all the comments guys.
I really like the Roller.
All along I wanted a Roller first, but got a TE isntead (just came up at the right price).
But now I got the roller, I really like it. If only postage on the mobiles was cheaper to oz, I could get a TE1a and SR1a too.
But my next aim is the SW1. That's a must

Good to see a few mobiles going your way Wallace
