My latest restorationI got this a bit back, a Victorian coal scuttle, it were me great great granny's I reckon. It had been repainted before (albeit poorly), and now I decided to freshen it up, before using it again for our log/coal cast iron stove. I polished the left hand side bit of brass prior to the photo The brass hasn't been shone for at least 50 years, and is taking some bloody rubbing! It uses the same paint as SEL uses on fireboxes!!

A nice project there James.
Mamod are using the same paint effect on the new 'William' loco's boiler so it will be interesting to see if you can get some of this paint as I've got a couple of SEL engines which could do with firebox repainting.

I think there is a wrinkle paint thats available, cos I used to have some when I resprayed my MGB glovebox. Might be worth trying the MG Owners club for this- its the same stuff as SELs firebox

Ranger, that is an item from before there was Central Heat in most homes. I bet that James' Great Granny would have LOVED to just use the thermostat for more heat.
I can sympathize as I am now heating exclusively with wood and must carry the fire wood in and stoke the wood stove several times a day.

The Heat Pump died and I have not yet been able to fix it, so I use the Stove, it is a Fireplace insert.
This is a very poor photo, but here it is before I lit it. You can also see the Cat, and a few Mamods and a Wilesco too

The Mantle is too small
There is an electrical outlet up there though, I guess I could add to mantle and run them too.

I have a wood burning stove, it probably out weighs me. I need to get in one of these days from my dads work. Or at least a picture. I'll have to get a video of one of my fires in my chimenaah(?) thing

I think I liked our open coal fire better than the stove we got now
|

The thing is, that stove can heat the whole house. Whereas an open fire might look better, it would only heat a small area.
|
James
|
Yep!
Plus open fires draw in the heat from other rooms, making them colder!

Errrm well I finished this a long time ago, but never got around to posting it up!
Here's the finished article (see page one for before pics):

thats very good! Want to come and restore the coal scuttles at the railway?

James

LOL Will do
what's mulch???
Well it's chopped up willow trees, that they use for burning in power stations. Mate of ours has like 200 tons of the stuff and is getting more, so we experimented with burning it on the stove to see how long it lasted!

Aye it's alright!
Cob a couple of 300 year old Pitch Pine Marshall roof trusses on, and cob a few shovel of this willow on and it banks it down alrate!
