Great collection Les, don't stop there

Thank you, just editted the original post, I have taken off the whistle, added a safety valve and turned the fire box the right way round on the #5 MM2.
Forgot to add this one as well. A very sorry looking MEC1.

Does the MEC1 run? If so, what a workhorse
I like the brass flywheel on it.

Despite how it looks it is a very good runner especially with the extra weight of the brass flywheel.

Great Collection Les.
Never realized you had all these engines.
Have you considered a wide angle view of all your collection?
Or do you not have a wide angle lens big enough?
|

I think he would need to rent a hall in order to show the entire collection at once.

That's great that it runs. I just wasn't sure after seeing the solder on the overflow plug. It just has the workhorse appeal

Does number 2 and number 5 both have water level plugs?
Number 6 (SE2) could be 1954 as it looks to have the thicker rimmed flywheel and a oval decal.
Number 12 (SE3) is approx mid 60's.
Number 13 (MEC1) is 1965-1970 if it has a brass crank, or 1970-76 if it has a nickel plated crank.
Other than that the dates seem fine

No worries
Sorry Les, my mistake. Not thinking when I type.
Number 6 SE1 1954. Thicker rim and oval decal makes me think this.
Going off notes I've taken from Auctions, engines I've seen, the MEC1 changed to a nickel crank when they changed to a blue carton in 1970. All the boxed Yellow/red carton Mec1's I've seen have the brass crank. But no doubt one will come up that proves otherwise
Again, a lovely collection

Nice one Les. SP3 is one I have to get as I like my MEC1 so much.
Sorry, probably of not much help with the burner, but I imagine that would be the correct one as it is for SP2 or SP4.
Picturing the SP1 burners are smaller, SP5 are bigger.

Yes Les, that is the correct burner. The dimples in the burner tray should fit/ align with bumps on the silver base in the firebox The fire box 'door' will be held in place by raised pieces in the base too. In short yes that's the one
The SP3 is a great runner just like the MEC1

I do have a burner without the door but it is nice to have the right one even though I will use a meths burner on it anyway.
Burner now purchased.

Although I am not a big fan of solid fuel the burner does suit the engine.

Very nice collection Les. I like the way you showed the different types. I sometimes see Mamods in the local junk shops round these parts but can never identify the model. Now I can ...

I was at Portland Steam Fair this weekend and as I was getting the engines and accessories set up another exhibitor came up and ask if I was interested in purchasing an engine, I didn't commit myself as she said it was a bit battered and didn't run. Well when she came back with it it turned out to be a MM2 with a bent chimney and base and also the piston was seized. She asked for £15, I offered £10 and we both agreed on £12. It is complete including burner, needs some work but with a drop of oiler, some water and meths I soon had it running. I know the firebox is on the wrong way on the base but I shall put that right when I sort out the chimney.

Once you sort out the chimney, I think you have a winner. great price too.

I only took a couple as I was too busy enjoying myself.
|
Les

The pop-riveter arrived today so I could fix the chimney on my latest MM2 and I also turned the firebox around the right way, the chimney still has a slight lean to it though.
Still not bad for £12.

The bit the flywheel band goes round at the bottom of the chimney behind it is the generator, then 2 wires go up the chimney to the red LED light.
Its brass, and fairly weighty- its a well built engine, and I think is over £100 new
