My sad looking Luton Bowman PW201

Received the Bowman PW201 I recently bought at ebay.
It's quite a sad little engine, someone must have dropped something heavy on it .

I wonder what I should do, try to gat it alive again, or keep it for spares.
I doubt that I can safe that firebox, maybe I can get someone to make a replica.
Besides the pipework, the boiler, pipes, cylinder and piston seem to be fine. I might try to give it a steam soon, see if it leaks anywhere.
SPOKESMAN

The firebox can be straightened, although you'll have to drill out the rivets holding it - the rest will clean up. I can let you have the artwork for a decal. Needs a chimney - we can give you dimentions Erik - its basically a brass tube!!
tmuir

Nasty.
No wonder they didn't do a sideways photo for ebay.
Careful panel beating may save the firebox but as you said the rest looks sound so it is restorable. I personally would try and get it going again as I hate turning an old engine into spare parts, it seems such a loss.

Yeah Erik, those fireboxes are aluminum, soft and fairly thin. Once you get the
boiler off, see if you can get your fingers in there and bend it back into shape.
Use small blocks of wood, etc. There are tabs holding parts of it together and,
if need be, you can carefully loosen the sides for a better purchase. It might
not look like new, but you can save that one, and maybe avoid the rivet work.

I agree Chuck.

That firebox can be saved with a little effort.

I would use the wood block method with a light pin hammer to knock it gently back into shape.

It'll come back to life just wait and see.
MooseMan

Ah, that's not so bad! The boiler looks good and complete, as does the engine. The firebox is just that - a tin box, easily replaced if it can't be fixed.
erikl

Ok, you've convinced me, I'm going to try to save it
Actualy, It convinced me itself, by running very good: http://www.steam-toys.com/index.php?page=vid&vid=23

Now it will just have to be patient untill I'm finisched with my bowman M122 (still busy polishing)
James

That actually looks good to me! I can see a nice engine in there somewhere
Mamodman123

ITs a shame but fixable Erik! Just get out the trusty hammer

Runs well Erick, despite the condition.

Look forward to seeing the M122 - a classic engine.

Would be great if you could provide me that info, any help is welcome!
What kind of decal should this engine have? I saw that moosman's PW203 got some kind of metal tag on it.

Ill post up a pic of it - email you a JPEG. Mooses had a metal rivetted badge - some early ones did.
Graham-Jilly

I think you will have a nice engine there when your finnished
steamgranny

Yes, please try & resuscitate the poor little thing. It's all there apparently, no major organ failure, just needs life breathing back into it & a touch of cosmetic surgery
A shame to think of it going for scrap
Steve_S

I agree with the others... it's definitely fixable and it'll be a beauty when its done.
flywheel61

At least it still runs, it will probably turn into one of those little gems when it's fixed.

I look forward to the pics when it's repaired.

Cheers

Chris
