Yeah, I've owned it since 1986. In 2006, I had fitted a new boiler (brought from Forest Classics), a new whistle (brought locally) and , the new meths burner (FC).
I put heatproof paint on the firebox (as it was rusting badly)
on 1 side of the f'box is a firehole with hinged door attached. I've found this makes it easier to light ,plus I don't get the front grubby!

They were made to be fired.
I need to do like you do mate and get some of mine fired.
I seem to be refurbing all the time.

Clinton, can you send a few pics of that Bix burner, I am interested in getting one if it holds Meths and has adjustable cover to snuff down the flame when full burn is not wanted.
As for your SP4 looking well used...congratulations, I personally think none of us fire our engines enough...hats off to the guy who wears his out...it means he has had many more hours of smiles than the guy who dusts them!!!

Atleast your SP4 is running Steamyman.
I just put mine together tonight and the sight glass leaked, on re-rivitting that I knocked the whistle and broke the bush loose so now I need to strip it down again and open the boiler back up. 
This means ordering more parts from the UK, not happy.
