My steam engine collectionHi, I just wanted to show you my steam engine collection at the moment, i left the b-30 because it's in sad shape.
This is the first steam engine i bought a mid 60's wilesco d5 with original box. this is model has a valve/ regulator
This is a wilesco d141 workshop with original box circa 1980, bought from original owner off craigslist for $75.
And here is the first steam engine i ever built,(1/4 bore 1/2 stroke) i had built others that were wood or plastic, but this is the first one that can auctually run on steam( temporary wooden flywheel). I plan to put it in a small steam launch some day.
Notice pm reasearch v twin in backround
I'll add pics of the Jensen #5 once it arrives

Thanks for sharing Connor. When you get into the B-30, several of us should be able to offer advice a few of us have one!

Thanks guys,
The reason the b-30 is in bad shape is beacuse when it arrived after I got it off ebay, it was very poorly packed, and the engine got "pushed" aside and the flywheel made a big dent in the boiler and the chimney got dented as well, oh well could have been worse, the sight glass could have broke. She runs smooth as silk even after the shipping accident .

Very nice, Connor. Always had a soft spot for accessories. Look forward to seeing the B-30.

There's a wilesco d161 on my local craigslist but the price is way to steep.

Steam engines are very tolerant of mistreatment. I have a Weeden with a dented boiler and a drunken whistle, but it runs like a dream

My B30 is a bit out of kilter like that as well - doesn't affect the running one bit.

I made a new whistle top fpr my B30 works pretty well. That chimney can be fixed with the round end of a small ballpien hammer..... Icould make that engine shine like a jewel again....

Thanks for the info about the chimney fix. Is there anyway to fix a boiler dent? Thanks

It could probably be lessened a bit, but the only way to really fix it would be to remove the endcap. You are better off leaving it alone. The nickel on those is very heavy compared to most other engines. You should be able to get that to polish. Go to my photobucket, and take a look at the before and after pics of my B30. It was in a much worse state than yours.
Search by "people" my user name is igy569 (I would post them here, but I am at work, and can not really do that right now!!) I think they are all in a folder marked "Empire". I still need another stack, but have been unable to get one.

yes the plating is very thick. The 2 big dents that I have didn't chip at all, also i guess a bonus is that the dents are hard to find on the boiler.

This is a tip i would not advise trying unless you have a spare boiler because i have never tried it myself on a boiler but you can (at least with exhaust chambers) fill them up with water and then freeze them with the water inside it the ice will then push the dents out as it expands however with this process its very easy to put to much water in and it could damage the boiler more.

you could do that but you have to caculate some factors very carefully like, the volume of the boiler, plus the expansion of water when frozen, I don't want to take the risk beause the dents aren't really bad. There still a bit of an annoyance, but it's something i can deal with.
