My very long flatbase SE2 restorationThis restoration has been going for some time now, so I'm glad it's finally finished.
I stripped down all the paint off it and repainted it to it's former glory.
I used matt black fireproof paint with laquer and it has come up a treat, but not tested it with heat and probably won't.

You can say that again. It's like it just came out of the shop.

Did you respray the supports and burner Steely?

I sprayed the burner, but left the supports and took them off another model that were in better condition.

Thought so, the burner could be a little "minter" if you don't mind me saying. The red is a perfect match, and it looks very good Steely.
Have you had it running to test the paint out yet mate?

Yes I know what you mean, but you don't know how many colours I've tried and I think this is the closest match and isn't too far away.
I havn't fired it no, but I will with a SE1a firebox I've done exactly the same which I should be putting back together tomorrow.
The paint can resist heat up to 2000 degrees celsious but not sure about the laquer.

Definaly wouldn't have laquered the firebox Steely, not unless it's heat proof!!
Last laquer I used it burnt when water from the piston hit it

Well the SE2 is for show, but we'll see what happens with the SE1a.

As long as you know what happened to mine when it laquered .
It will give you an idea anyway . As long as it's heat resistant you may be ok.

That's what I thought.
Anyway I'm off now so c ya tomorrow.

Engine is a credit to you steely.
I'm not really one for having engines repainted, but that needed it, and came up excellent.
Well done mate

Thanks everyone. Well I still need the right piston rod for it, so if I do steam it, it will only be when I get the right piston rod.
