My (very) modest collectionHardly dare post my modest collection in these hallowed halls
But here it is:
A quick snap of trio basking in the sun today
The D3 on day of arrival plus old Fleischmann resting from a run in background
And a closer look at little PM Research Stirling
Still have to repatriate the latest acquisition, presently in UK & hopefully more soon

That's a nice collection! The Fleischmann stands out for me.
How does the D3 run?

No collection is to humble
All those engines if could be had for the right price I would add them to my collection. All interesting engines, and not everday
everbody has one types.
Hmm... that PM research flywheel looks like it was designed after a Jensen flywheel (newer type) hmmm
Thanks again for showing what you have! I'm about to post in this second about one of the very very large items in my collection (compared to toy steam engines)
Cheers,

I have to buy a Fleischmann at some point

Well, thanks guys for not kicking me out as under-qualified
Think the Fleischmann is a 1951 model & I like it a lot. See here thanks to Bégé earlier:
http://www.ca-si.net/fleischmann/F-Damp … 120_4.html
But all in German, so none the wiser for time being.
Will be better when I get it a proper burner
James, I only bought the D3 because I like uprights & know I can't afford one of the old ones (yet!) & found it really cheap in Luxembourg
And because the virus had hit bad by then & 1 was already not enough
A simpler piston, flywheel & crank system I've yet to see! But despite sounding a bit ropey it can crank out the knots. I'll post a video later. Only discovered it had a central flue when I stuck my face over top of what I thought was a factice chimney

What do you want to know off the german site? Ich spreche Deutsches

By the way, the link to the website isn't working
|
steamgranny
|
No, you're right, the last bit of link isn't copying completely. Never mind, Bégé is apparently bi-lingual & has promised to do it
Expect one can navigate in via homepage http://www.fleischmann-toys.de/homepage/2%20Fleischmann/index.html
then Dampfmaschinen & Welches Modell ist das?
Getting complex all this multi-languaging

I make it the 1952 model
|
James

It's definately model number 120/1

A nice collection of engines, very clean.
The fleishmann does not look like it has been fired much.
|
steamgranny
|
Well, I'd figured it was the 120/4
Identical red, smokey base, little railing, sight glass etc.
The direct link seems to be copying OK now, I'll have another go.
See what you think.

Alicia, don't worry about a modest collection...5 years ago your collection would have been 3X the size of mine!!! Funny, but my first engine which I have had for 46 years is a Fleischmann 122/3
We all start with one...then somehow the collection takes on a mind of it's own.
Nice photowork by the way...sunshine really seems to make for pretty pics of these little engines.
cheers,
Roger

I really like the PM research stirling engine.
I dont have any stirling engines yet but I want love one like yours.
The Pm research stirling is on the front cover of a small book all about stirling engines that my dad bought many years ago.
When someone says stirling that is the engine I picture so at some point I'm going to have to add one to me collection.

tmuir, go for it, you won't regret it and if I can put it together you'll have it up in a trice
Are they on sale in Oz? I ordered direct from PM back in days when they didn't have online payment. Excellent service, imagine my surprise when I got a call from them to sort out payment! They are cheap direct from PM but gotta outwit customs Judging from recent conversation on subject, seems your limit is higher than here.
Remember pistons are 'oiled' with graphite

Yep, t'is a bit of a maze & all very similar in that range but having the 'beast' to hand makes it easier to compare, rather than from photos
If you are going to collect the whole Fleischmann range, on top of everything else, looks like you're in for a long haul

AS far as I'm aware you cant buy PM research engines in OZ but you can get other brands, they just cost a fortune to buy locally.
I've got a few books on Stirling engines and I'm aware that oil is a stirling engines enemy and I'm sure more than a few have been ruined by someone trying to look after their engine by oiling them.

I'm impressed. I'm also in agreement with the others. A well cared for small collection can be just as inspiring as a collection of many engines. Yours are just the way I like them.... nice and shiney...(grin)

That's a nuisance But then I'm really miffed no one sells Steamco over here, as I've fallen in love with those
Can no longer remember what postage cost but quite lightweight, it was customs that killed it & never expected it to be that much considering initial cost of item But still cheaper than buying in Europe Need a friend visiting States soon

I have every intention of letting it grow
One is shiny because it's new And other could actually do with a clean but sun has helped disguise the fact

Very nice collection steamgranny. All pics are more than welcome
Just wondering, how does the power (checking by finger) of the hot air engine, compare to say the Fleischmann?
Do they have as much power. I can't afford one, but they really fascinate me

Granny, a great collection and the link to the Fleischmann site is very useful. My own interest is in mobiles and I knew that Fleischmann made two models, 155/1 and 155/2. However on your link it clearly shows 2 different versions of each model, making 4 steam rollers all together.
I only own one of these. A red 155/1 but I'll be looking out for the others now.
Thanks

Good question & I don't know It looks/sounds quite powerful & has a pulley but I didn't fit it because it goes inside the flywheel supports & if I fit a drive belt I can't take it off, so have never tried running anything with it. Have a vid of it running along with Fleischmann & will post later.

Three cracking engines there Alicia! All very nice indeed. Every time I see a Stirling I resolve to have another go at getting mine to run... so far it's resisted all attempts!

They're all nice, Steamgranny! I like the Fleischmann best but the verticle is
really interesting, too. It's a wilesco D3? I've never seen one of those before.

Thanks! What seems to be the problem with Stirling? Not that I have the knowledge to help but possibly someone else does - we seem to have a crack team here
Although not sure we are 'allowed' to discuss hot air

Yes, that's a D3 & bought it because I found it cheap, like verticals & one steam engine was already not enough
I've just discovered Roly owns one, whilst visiting his site and has written up a very fine overview. (Nice collection Roly!)

From little acorns big oak trees grow, well that's what happened to me anyway and yours look much cleaner rthan mine. I guess that's waht happens when you get a lot of engines, . Yo uahave a great diversity and i'm sure it won't stop there.
