my whole (well, nearly) bundle of steam

hi all,

this is my lot, the MM2 was given to me in 2004.

notice the vertical-boilered Renown engine (Australian built in the 1940s) - this started my interest in steam.

the big black boiler on the right foreground of photo was given to me as a gift in December 1995. In '95 all it had was a safety valve; also it was then meths fired (now gas)

i also have a Mamod TE1a (boxed-never fired) i brought it in the year 2000.
tmuir

You've got some serious looking bits of gear there.
The Renowne looks almost dwarved by it all.
What the big looking one on the rear right of the picture?

I need to get around and take a family photo of all my gear.
Might do it next weekend once my Kookaburra turns up.
yosa

Some whopping kit there steamyman.

Great collection mate. Any chance of some vids of them running?
MooseMan

As James would say, that's a girth boiler

What's it driving in that picture??
Mamodman123

Nice collectipon
James

LMFAO Moosey!

Great collection mate. Very jealous
Wallace

Great collection of engines there mate
steamyman

Thanks all for your comments.

the biggest model steam I have is a *2 water tube boiler ,this is hooked up to my Gage TVR1a twin cylinder. (someone i know helped me connect the Gage to the boiler)

*(before late 2005 it had the green single cylinder slide valve engine- see 2nd pic)> i decided to get something with more power.
SPOKESMAN

Very intersting poring over them pics!

another engine i have - (i got 1 of these in 1992 for my 21st birthday) unfortunately i used the wrong oil on it, now it ceases to run

I love that model and have tracked several on ebay but yet to bid on any.
My dad has a book on stirling engines that has it on the front cover.
Oil is the enemy of stirling engines, creates too much friction.
You sure you cant just strip it doen and clean it with IP to remove the oil.
If you dont want to, would you like to sell it to me at a 'damaged goods' price.
Stilldrillin

I`m running one of those hot air engines, at this moment!

One of my favourites.

Only ever used "3 in 1" type oil on it, and it never fails to make me smile.

Yes!
I thought I`d taken a pic. of it running some time ago.

Let`s see if I can upload it.....

Hey, that worked ok!
Really made my day!
tmuir

I love stirling enegines and must get one, one day.
I have plans to make a simple 'tin can' stirling engine that I must build one day.

Here is a link to the website I got it from.

i saw a tin can stirling engine at Caboolture Historical Village ,Queensland Australia in 2003. i didn't take a pic of it.

There are some very interesting engines there and great to see such a diversity of scale.

Cheers

steamyjim

i have a large scale model of a ryder errikson hot air engine that i was given...

unfortunatley its not in working condition at the moment adn when we did get it workin it didnt create enough power to run the colling water pump so we could only run for a short while
steamyman

and all of it sits on a table my dad built (yes I'm spoilt)
SPOKESMAN

Ever tried to get it re-working? so to speak!

How can oil affect it?
Stilldrillin

An interesting little hot air engine I`ve had for a while.

It`s sulking at the moment. When (if) I get the time it will run again

An Albon, one off experimental piece, made to prove that the T piece coupling worked ok. (It does).

Some very interesting & different engines there Clinton, I'd like to own an OZ engine like a renown or Scorpion one day. Til then I've got lots of Mamods to keep me company.

Cheers

Arrgh!! Oil on main piston = death of a Stirling - graphite only, although oil fine on secondary piston.
This may not work but always worth a try. Dismantle main piston & cylinder & thoroughly clean any oily residue. You probably have a small air intake regulatory valve with an O-ring on the side of cylinder & might be good idea to clean that up too ( Mine is also PM Research). 'Lubricate' with graphite & cross fingers
Tip for obtaining graphite - rasp the lead of pure graphite pencil, available in art shops.
Good luck

tmuir, when you do this, can we have a 'walk through', stage by stage 'how-to-do-it', as I'm dying to have a go at this too?!
Although, will need to accumulate all required parts first......

I wont be starting this until my workshop is built and need to order some of the material as I cant get it all locally but when I do make it rest assured of lots of potos

Hmmm. Thankyou! I`ve never thought of graphite!

I own several hot air engines, always oiled.

My PM engine, runs perfectly after 2/3yrs on "3in1"

But, this one`s sulking. (I used "some workshop oil")

Guess it`s time for a strip & clean.

David.
Stilldrillin

Ah!
I`ve already posted those pics on here. SORRY!

It`s early yet, not had me breakfast. Time to switch off, and eat.

David.

Well, there you go, who am I to say! But having bought my PM new there were big warning signs about ONLY using graphite on main cylinder. I use 3-in-1 everywhere else, though. But certainly won't hurt to clean the non-runner & give it a try.
Stilldrillin

Hmmmm. Thanks Steamgranny!

The PM came to me secondhand, and about 2yrs old, with no sign of graphite (or instructions), but, with oil on the power piston.
So I carried on in ignorance!

Time to strip & clean everything!

Thank you for the Artshop Pencil tip.

David.

I remember when i was going to school and it came it "Show & Tell day">i brought along the Renown (as that's the only steamer I owned back then- early 1980s) Wouldn't you know it: once it got steam up, she wouldn't perform! I was soooo & .
