Near miss

Thisafternoon i decided to do a spot of steaming with wilesco TE with the new gasburner fitted- as it was the small gas tank was on the footplate ang got a little walm and the paint sort of started burning a bit- so i blew it out- thankfully no dammage done and deciced to make myself a propper bracket that i had been meaning to do for a long time.- it may not be the most beautifull thing but there are no holes drilled in the tender and it connects with a meccano bolt to the tow hich and a hole drilled in the footplate so is totally removable. And as it is one of my workhorses i thort better safe than sorry (as it is gas it would of been very sorry lol).
I even extended the tow hich with some meccano and bolted it firmly in 2 places so is really strong!!!

cheers

Thanks Toxx- i dont think it should b- the hardest part was making hook in the end of the stainless so it will fit over tender- in the end i folded it to 90o and then put it in the vise with a bolster and that gave me just the claerence to tap the end down lol
toxx

... top job, mate! How long will she run on one gas tank filling?
Roundy

not quite sure yet- havnt really used the gas burner on this before- i think it lasts a good 1 boiler full of water- it depeds how hard you are working it tho- will probs have another steam 2 moz afternoon and will let u no!
Mamodman123

If you keep an eye on the water level it will be fine! looks good anyway!

Interesting, looks just like the burner installation on the Mamod William locomotive.

Be very careful with the gas pipe as it is not flame proof, and if that melts there could be a serious blowback. It should be covered in a wire mesh surround like this on the Hornby Rocket -

I agree with Tom (toxx) that the Wilesco boiler may be a bit thin for a gas burner, so make sure it has plenty of water in it at all times. I would mark the gas valve with a line so you know where it is fully closed, and how much you have opened it - here is the red line I marked my gas valve on the William with, and I use no more than one half of a turn with a butane/propane mix -

Not managed to find a supplier in the UK online yet, but this is the sort of stuff you are looking for - http://www.action-electronics.com/braid.htm

Only stuff on ebay is 10 metres long at £40!
mogogear

Do they small diameter wire cable armor??

Just thinking about a melted line catching light makes me think the name "Brown Roundy " would not be a good change

Do you have any pictures of the Gas Burner on your engine? Nice job fitting the tank, nice neat bit of metalwork there!

as requested lol-

Les

Very nice and the second was short but sweet.
Roundy

lol- it was quite hard 2 film- when the camera span round at the end that was the wind!!!
Nick

Great to see it hauling a load.
Roundy

pulls like a train!- the only prob on that is that there is not enough weight over back weeles to get the traction that is needed to pull heavier loads- having a the gas tank on does help tho cos of the weight pushing the back weeles down.
