Need a meth burner idea to fit a Wilesco Vertical D455Gents,
It's been awhile since I fired up my vertical Wilesco with Esbit burner...but I pulled it off the shelves and gave it a good run over the weekend. Got me wondering if anyone has come up with a good alternative meths burner that will fit this sort of engine.
thanks,
Rog

Roger,
Forest classics do a range of repro meths burners to fit Wilesco, not sure if they will fit the Vertical.
Heres the link, Look at G7 to G10

Surely it can be done...have you got a good pic of the firebox and one of the tablet tray?

Rog, if you remove the burner tray slide (easily done through careful straightening of the tabs) you will have more room in the firebox. The 45 should be able to take any small oblong or round meths burner. I'd be tempted to make a vapourising one out of a small paint tin, some cotton wool and a bit of metal gauze.......

Aye that does work, maybe a Bowman tube would fit in there with support for the tank?

I've got a couple of those - they're very good, very clean burning but they do run incredibly hot - far hotter than meths or solid fuel. I use one in my boat as I find it safe and reliable when I can't get to it quickly - also it doesn't blow out or blow around in the open air.
I also used one once fo fire up my Bowman m122 - I thought the old girl would take off!
Not cheap though - basic tank and burner assembly is 50 quid - that's a LOT of meths.

Thanks guys,
I might just take the little burner I made for my Wormar Trojan and try it on my Wilesco D455...it has a short burner tube. Another possibility is the burner from my Bowman M135...that might actually fit even better and wouldn't have to bend internal Wilesco fuel tray support tabs (which I'm a little leary to do).
I shall give both burners a go today and see how they work out.

Roger,
Steely on here made a meths burner for his D16. You could ask him for a drawing, but recently he seems to have dissapeared off the face of the earth

His was just a modified wilesco burner with a lining of foil wasn't it?

I haven't seen it, but he did describe it to me
