NEW - Bowman M122 .....Look what the Postman just brought me!
Whisked across the Atlantic Ocean from the private collection of our very own Indiana Rog, it’s a lovley Bowman M122.
Now - has anyone got chimney cap for sale to make this engine complete!
And it arrived as the best-packed item I have personally EVER received, (it took me 10 min to get through all the bubble wrap).
I don’t think a nuclear blast would have damaged this engine!

Oh My! Isnt that nice.
I think it would have looked nice next to my M135, but there again it probably did at one time.
Aside from cosmetics, is it all up to running?

That does look nice, but I bet it's not too long before it's dismantled.

Very nice 122 there Steve. Are you going to give it a repaint?
Yes, I have to agree, Rogers packing skills are very comprehensive, and second to none.

Very nice! As for the chimney cap... I'm in the same position... I also need one for an M122. I've been experimenting with ways of making one, and have several bits of crumpled metal to show for it. I hope to get it right soon though, and I'll post the results if and when I'm successfull!

If you are successful, I need three.

I know you'll find a way Steve ,it's just a matter of time.
I bet it'll be made out of a discarded egg cup base or something that we would all just throw away.
I'm sure we'll all be viewing a Steve_S chimney cap very soon.

Well, the attempts so far have used metal cut from a biscuit tin lid....

wow a good engine and best of all to hear the packing story!

Is the chimney cap on these the same as the 135?
At least on my M135 the cap is a piece of turned brass. I would think that if one had access to a lathe that it would be a fairly easy part to make. I wish now that I had not sold mine, it was an old Atlas Lathe but was quite handy at times.

The 101, 122 and the 135 caps are identical.

Yes, the cap is the same as the one on the 135. They're pressed out of sheet metal and painted black. I haven't seen a brass turned one. Could you post a picture?

Another great purchase
I look forward to seeing it in operation

I was mistaken, it is pressed out of sheet material. To be honest I never looked at it too closely as it did not get polished.
This shows it on the M135
I hope these can be of some assistance, but still think it would be a breeze to turn one, but maybe James can do it with his Manure Spreader, or a plumbers Flaring Tool.

See if you can get any 1" i.d. brass eyelets used in sailmaking.
Similar to these.

Those look very close, one should buy a small quantity and sell them for a small profit.

They do look good don't they? Presumably ships chandlers would have them?

Yes they should, only the ones I tried near me did not have any, and the ones in the picture are 1/2" i.d. which will work for small German upright engines.

No repaint for this one Griffin, it will stay as it is for a long time I think, maybe just a polish when I work up the courage

I have chosen to leave the M135 as is too, I think it shows its age with a bit of class.
