New burner conceptI have been thinking about this idea for a while, and its my "Holy grail" idea.
The idea is to have the engine make the fire for me.
Have a burner with a concept similar to Mr.O's new one and then have steam injected into the burner to "super charge" it I haev tried this with my little mamod stationary and it seemed to work fine.
Maybe a valve controlling the steam and alcohol
I shall try to get a video soon.
What do you think of the idea?

Are you meaning vaporized like with a carburetor?

Are you talking about using the steam to pressurise the burner?
If so I would love to see how this would work.

Yes, exactly. Well.....kinda.
I will have to show you.

Yes a small amount of alcohol going into the burner, the steam being hot and vaporising the alcohol.

Really interesting concept.. but please be careful. The potential for getting out of control is strong!! Keep the extiguisher handy!!!

Yeah, I just tried this idea. Yets just say this is an idea:(. Not a reality.
This is a concept, I dont think it will work after what happened.

Well... I am more glad that YOU are OK. I am a parent, I can't help myself.
I understand your concept, but I think it would have to be done with some kind of a jet and blower like an oil burner. Its a soound concept using the steam pressure instead of a blower. But it would be really hard to control, as it sounds like you found out.
Denatured alchol can bit a bit finicky.
Sides, I love your youtube videos!! My tag line says it all!!

I was thinking of even using an aquarium pump to put a bit of positive air pressure inside the burners tank. Might work, but I would have to be bloody careful that the fuel level is lower than the tubes, else flaming puddles of doom would result..
Your idea sounds interesting. Looking forward to the details.

Positive pressure might force liquid through and not aid vaporization.

Yup. I tried that.... had less than positive results. The plywood I has under it (I try to always sheild table surface when playing with fire) was a bit charred, and I have a lot less hair on the back of my hand.
Little pools of fire, followed by large rivers if it. and this was with maybe 1/2psi.....
I think I will skip this idea for now

Well, you see I already tried it in that I blew into my remote feed fuel line towards the end of the session. The burner was running low, almost going out, but that bit of breath gave it nice full and high blue flames. That's what I'm getting at.
Of course you MUST use a Bowman-style fire tube burner that draws its fuel UP from a reservoir. Any burner that relies on having flooded tubes, like Mamod style vertical wick burners, would overflow and pose a hazard.
I'm sure there are other factors, which is why I am in no way advocating this, but merely stating where my thoughts are taking me. I am, of course, going to try this with a third specially built burner that will maintain a particularly low fuel level in the main tank.
It will probably also need to be at least partly silver soldered due to the extra heat and there being less meths within to cool it.

Excellent. I think I see what you mean. Makes sense. I think the problem is I have not seen enough of the other style burner for good reference.
Thanks for the info.... Hmmm... something to think about while I get through the "workday"!!

well it started out Ok.
But I could not get the flame to work right. So I cranked up the steam engine and it made the alcohol boil and shoot flames (not the good kind) everywhere. I had a wet towel (thanks Rog ) and face sheild but did manage to get a tiny bit of fire on my hands. I'm Ok so dont worry.
I have acheived a concept similar to this with a small r/c gas engine muffler. It worked well on an air brush compressor. But cant find the muffler.
Let your minds ponder the idea of a steam powered burner.

Imagine alcohol instead of oil

Interesting idea, but I can see where you run into trouble with alcohol, seeing as it's a good bit more volatile than oil.
I worked out my design in my head while driving between sites. I might get started on a prototype tonight.
Or not, since I'm pooped

Work on prototype!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I find that a BIG tank and a one hole for fire works well with compressed air.

Mr O,
I think you and I think much alike. You think a low volume fuel injector would work? Like an ATV engine? Maybe a carbfuel jet from an R/C gas car? But I too am goin to soon go get some

We think O-like?
got the preliminary work done. Will upload some pics soon and an explanation in a new thread.
