New Mamod Loco Hauls 20lbsNot my video, but was shown this by David Terry (MD of Mamod) yesteday.
It shows the new Mamod loco on some chaps garden railway hauling a dead MSS loco and a train of other wagons amounting in weight to 20lbs.

Quite impressive I think. After seeing an example of a production model yesterday (only seen the prototypes for real before) and this video, I have decided that the Whitchurch Light Railway Company needs one and have put an order in with Messers Forest Classics and co for one when I have the money
For anyone interested in this loco, Forest Classics will probably be at Exeter Garden Railway show demonstrating it. If they can not come then I have been asked to take a sample of the new loco, and set that will be available soon down with me

I sure like mine, once it got run in it really is a good runner, the gas firing sure helps it keep up a head of steam, I do not think that you will regret getting one,

I told him about the problems you had with the steam pipe fouling the sightglass and they intend to take that on board in the near future

They do seem to want to help, I am satisfied with mine, I think they took care to include most of the upgrades that people do to SL Locos in building the New Train.

I agree, they seem to have got their act together after their reputation received from Harry and the problems with quality control etc.
This loco initially wasn't going to have reverse but the dealers said that they just wouldn't sell if it didn't have one, so one was included

The paint wasn't so good on my TE1a, but it's an excellent engine and I believe is Mamod's best running engine to date!

I am very impressed. However for the time being I am stuck with the William. Oh well.

It's good to hear these positive reviews the new loco is receiving. I'll have to pick one up and do something to make it look a little more prototypical narrowgauge loco...

I would love one of the new Loco's but to have a garden railway you really need a garden or large space which I don't have.

Cool! But what about adapting the slide valve engine to a loco? Have they thought about doing something along those lines. I'd think that might end up being a nice runner.

The William II is a Piston Valve engine I believe. It costs more though. I believe the thing that makes the New Mamod Train is the price, a lot of Locomotive for the money, more bang for the buck.
I ran mine for two boilers full this morning, a pleasant hour and a half, I believe I am getting about 30 minute run times with it. The Gas Burner gives it a lot more punch than my SL3 and the bigger boiler gives it a longer run time too.
