New Mamod rolls (wheels for rollers)I am frustrated.
these are on ebay:
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAP...9277&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT
There have been others from the same seller. Back ones as well and I posted the link then. He says they are off one of Mamods latest models. They are great but no-one selling Mamod has updated their pictures so I cannot verify his claim.
Has anyone seen them on a model and will they be generally availiable in the future like the Foden-style wagon front wheels are now?

I wonder, there again a real Roller would not have spoked wheels would it?

Oh yes. They were more common than "solid" ones on steam rollers. The "solid" type became more common later on, in diseasel days. I believe this was so they could be filled with water to give more weight.
This is the Fowler I used to drive at Summerlee: http://rolywilliams.com/fowler.html

Yup, the majorty of full sized rollers in the United Kingdom have spoked wheels. Plate wheels were sometimes fitted when the weight needed to be adjustable and so could be filled with water or weights.
I presume the rollers that used solid wheels such as the Wallis & Steevens Advance, the Marshall Universal or some of the later Aveling and Barford rollers had rollers, to cut down on cost's as it would be easier to set up a roll using two flate plates as opposed to 20 or so spokes and for less machining.

All that I ever operated were more modern, the rollers were partially filled with Calcium.
One note of interest, if a Roller weighs too much it doesnt perform as well.

I quite like the look of those front rolls.

I can't say I've seen them on a Mamod before. I just checked my 2007 SR Challenger, and it has the 4 holes in the front rollers

Cheers for clarifying that Mamod, i quite fancied a set but not sure i'll bother i'll stick with genuine

Didn't think they were genuine.
Wonder if the seller doesn't know or if he is trying a quickie.
He could just as easily sell them as an upgrade for the rollers as I'm sure a number of people would still buy them.

Forgive me for saying so but maybe they should be.
Or rather maybe you should be manufacturing a more realistic roll, ie one with spokes modelled on flat plate spokes.
The referenced items have heavy round spokes, I have never seen a real roller like that. Cast flywheels and some roadwheels yes.
The rear rolls that go with these where much better, just like TE wheels but with a heavy rim. More links to red rolls:

Mr Alistoyshed should have a good story.

Irregardless of whether you like them or not, the Ebay listing makes it sound like they are Mamod Factory spares, they are not and the Factory has told us that, If the seller is going to mislead us about the fact as to their origin, will they mislead us to the facts as to the quality?
It never serves to Lie

I purchased a set of same front rollers in Red. I wish I'd bought the Black pair, they arrived today and very very nice indeed I will be painting them Black, as they are going on my Big black Roller I saw some rear wide Spoked Roller wheels the other night on e-bay.A tad expensive at £19.99 I was tempted but I lost internet service for 2 days and only got it back today,so will keep looking-Si

To recap the quality is excellent but the paintwork isn't up to much but I am going to paint them black the outer tyre? is absolutely mirror finish and the castings very clean-Si

A reply to my quuestion:
As far as we know these are produced by Mamods and starting to get fitted on the very latest special edition rollers, they certainly look the part compared to SR1a rolls.
Thanks
My second question:
Thanks for your reply Alex.
It has been strongly suggested on the internet that these are not manufactured by Mamod. Consequently a body of discerning potential purchasers have been disuaded from bidding as they have no assurance of quality. Could you please investigate your source and confirm the manufacturer for me. I am sure the answer wil be assuring and encourage bidding. Many thanks..
I hope this is a fair approach

I think "It has been strongly suggested on the internet" is understating it - it has been categoricaly denied by Mamod.

I think "Mamodonline" is an eBay shop with no connection with Mamod other than selling their products.

Mamod point out in this thread that they only have the one website.

To me it looks like somone has just pushed a TE1a front wheel into the rolls, you can see quite an obnoxious join
any body else think likewise?

It is a significant part of my job to tell people their work is crap.
I find gentle understatment reduces offence and keeps them "on-side". Introducing an alternative hate figure, the anonymous internet, helps too.

I have a reply:
Hi
Yes the forum message has been bought to my attention, and I will be posting there once the administrator approves my account, as I have sold several Models to forum members and would like that to continue.
Basically I bought a large collection in from a deceased estate (40 TE1as and SR1as plus spares) having been a Mamod stockist in the past and a keen collector of engines my business is heavily biased towards steam models. I was offered but didn't purchase 2 Special edition Style Rollers which had these wheels on, sat on top of Mamod boxes and looked nice, but were to be honest where to much money for me, anyway I bought the rest of the collection and these wheels where in the lot, there was 2 sets but they looked the part, and were certainly of a quality to be factory produced still wrapped in tissue paper and having seen 2 Mamods that looked like new I rightly or wrongly assumed these were a new Mamod idea, I suppose in future if I get any parts like that again I should ask the factory first.
So yes a genuine mistake, and if I had been aware of the forum comments first then yes I would have double checked with Mamods, feel free to post this on the forum or pass to those concerned as you can see from my Ebay feedbacks we normally put all we know about products on the blurb and would never intentionally get it wrong or mislead.
Thanks
There you go, a simple story rearly.

I respect a man who can admit he was mistaken, the wheels do look nice, maybe Mamod should look into a similar option in the future.
