I received a Un-fired new in the box meths fired MM2.....
After a quick inspection ,replacement of SV O-rings due to age they were mush, adjusting the endplay of the axle, and shimming the crank pin with Teflon..add a little oil..Its ready to roll......
So lets FiRe it UP! Here is a phone video (sorry) of the first run!
After hearing the meths burner rattle i lined the slot in the fire box with a thin piece of leather....big help!
She runs very strong! And makes quite a racket...loudest engine I own....
For now.......
Thanks to Gil !

It quietened down a lot at 34 secs, what did you do?
But it certainly ran like the clappers, Jim!

MM2's are wonderful engines, yours is a very good one indeed.

MM2s are underrated, tons of fun in a little package

I'm glad it arrived safely and it's good you wasted no time to start enjoying it !

Jim, it may make a bit of a noise now...but I'm sure after it's run in and tweeked as only you can do, it will be running smooth as silk.

they are a powerful engine and the whole model is a bit light for the power generated so they tend to jump around and vibrate a bit.
johnreid
Aw come on now, you dont live in a Library, the noise is half the fun
Burnmafingers
The baby Mamods are indeeed fun little engines
Sandman
Great little engine and heaps of fun.

The first steaming of a meths fired MM2 means its also quite a rare video

John ,
The fun for me is making them better machines...
I plan to use my magnetic propeller balancer (?) and check the flywheel...I am sure its out a mile....with that setscrew in the side of the hub...
Jim

A better machine isnt necessarily a quieter machine Some of that noise is the exhaust of the engine. They do quiet down a lot when clamped securely to the table.

Flywheel was out of balance but that has been fixed and she does run allot smoother!.........
My balancer suspends items on a shaft that floats on magnets...works great!

Pictures and an explanation would be nice, Jim.
I have several engines that need balancing.
Phil
You can do RC car wheels ,Propellers , ect ...as long as the hole in the item will fit over the shaft...the centering cones on the shaft take up the slack on bigger holes.
You let the item hang between magnets ...one end is not touching a magnet...other end just rests on a plastic covered magnet...so it floats.
Mark the items heavy end/side ...then grind off a bit of metal on dead center of the heavy side....Or in the case of some propellers a little wipe of clearcoat or CA on the light side....
Then re check....
The balancer is SO touchy you can tell if you just add a drop of paint to the item....once its balanced.
I removed metal inside the flywheel hub with a mill cutting bit on a dremel...then re-touched the paint.
Made a big difference in the MM2's table dance routine....
Now i want to do the rest of my engines......Im mAd!
If you do not wish to remove metal...I am not sure what to try to change the balance ona flywheel other than paint...and it would take allot of time...between coats...ect
...Sorry for lack of pics....when I get into a operation....I tend to be full into it and forget the camera ....

Don't forget that the piston and connecting rod weigh something and are not always correctly offset by a weighted crank arm. You can wrap tape around part of your flywheel and even tape something to the inside rim to test it.

Gil,
Would you think the crank arm should match the piston and rods mass?...
To counter its inertia.
