New Stove, at lastAfter I had my fire in April, I was told that I had to replce my Wood Stove, no big problem I thought as the Insurance was going to pay for it, well, here it is July and I finally have the new Stove in place!
I have a new Stainless steel Flue too, however the Chimney Contractor has to come and retop my Chimney as it is covered with a blue tarp at the moment.
Now that it is Air Conditioning season, I get a new heat source

I like fireplaces, or wood stoves. But being in the south (a bay 1/4 mile from my house) it doesnt get too cold. About 30 degrees is super cold down here
Maybe you can fire a boiler with the wood stove and power your house.

When we had ours put in, we had the option of a back boiler for an extra £30. Bloody wish we'd have got it now!

My last stove went all the way back in the fireplace, this one sticks out about a foot and there is a shelf where I can boil some water for a cuppa.
I think I have paid out about the equivalent of £1600 in this one, installed, thank God for Insurance.

If there's a little shelf on top, you could get one of those stirling engine fans to sit on top of it
or one of these things

I would LOVE to have one of those fans, but IMHO they are a bit overpriced.
The Cat had been penned up in the bedroom while the workmen were here so in that picture he is looking at it for the very first time.

THe chimney needs to be retopped, the build a form around the chimney and pour concrete. The Chimney Contractor is going to try to do it Tomorrow if it doesnt rain.

Looks good.
We had our ugly gas fire ripped out last December and a stove put in. It is smaller than that, and cost about £1200 all in (stove, fitting, lining of the chimney, taking out and capping off old gas fire). Is really nice though.

Why does it have a power cable going to it?

Being a fireplace insert, a lot of the heated surface is inside the fireplace, so they have it designed that a blower runs and moves the heated air into the house. This one is rated to heat over a 2000 sq foot house. The main purpose of the Stove here is to heat the house in a cold winter and reduce the electric bill.

Did anyone see The Fred Dibnah series, I think it was called Fred's Industrial Age or something.
One one episode he visited a guy who had the backhead of a huge boiler inset into the brickwork in his kitchen. I think it was a boiler from an old water works or something. It was massive, probably 8ftin diameter of so, gloriously detailed with the makers details all cast around the edge and picked out in white paint.
Would make a great stove though - if it had the rest of it!

Aye I saw it! He made bread in it or something didn't he
