New Stuart additions to collection

The collection is growing out of control.

I was very pleased to get home last night to have my son Dennis meet me at the front door with three parcels in hand.

Two Stuart engines, one a 10V and one a S50 to unpack and a third package containing my new SV for the SE3 and other fittings and gaskets from Barry, also included was an unexpected Mamod instruction leaflet for the SE3, so big thanks to Barry.

My wife had also located some alcohol fuel for camping stoves at the supermarket so now I also have fuel to start steaming with. As some of you know I am having trouble finding meths here in Thailand so thanks to form members who put me on to this alternative.

As you can see in the picture the collection is growing. Only renewed my interest in steam engines end of July when I collected my old childhood SE3 from the attic back at Mum’s place during summer holidays.

The SE3 center of picture is semi dismantled waiting the parts from Barry before final clean and solder together so now ready to tackle this project.

The TEA1 I bought recently on eBay and now have alcohol fuel so fired her up last night. It ran beautifully with no repairs required. I will look for another drive band as this one may be a bit tight and binding but still pulls its weight around the living room at a good speed. I will also replace SV seals as it bubbles quite a bit while under steam. ( video clip to be posted soon)

I have found the Stuart engines particularly attractive I’ve seen on eBay and placed a couple unsuccessful bids over the last few weeks. Having been watching the two in my collection pic for a few days I got up at two in the morning last week to place a last second bid as this is where I lost out on previous tries.

Now both of these engines were listed by the same seller and closing at exactly the same time. So planning to get either one or the other I chose to place a bid on one about 5 minutes before auction ends but also bid on the other at the last second. I was prepared to be disappointed again but still hoping to possibly snipe one of these beauties.

Anyway I pressed the button, was informed that my bid was the highest and waited. What great news, I had won. I went to check what the second engine had gone for and low and behold I had also won this one so it was like happy hour.

The S50 turns 2 to 3 revolutions with a flick of the flywheel and can also be turned over by blowing into the intake. The 10V moves smoothly but is tight so guess some lubrication may be needed here.

I have also a boiler on the way so will fire these engines up in the near future.

Also on the way is a M2 with Lineshaft and 4 piece work shop set so I guess I will be staying off eBay for a while now as I have found it a bit addictive the past weeks as you can see.

Dennis opened up a uTube account for us last night so once I have shot some more footage I will be posting some running clips of this collection.

Stuart engines are nice and you will not be disappointed with them at all. Congratulations as I see the forum effect has taken hold already.
