NEW TO FORUM---- FIRST POST

GREETING EVERYONE AT THIS OH SO FRIENDLY FORUM.  MY NAME IS ALAN, I RESIDE IN BOZEMAN, MONTANA  (THAT'S FAR NORTH IN THE USA)  AND I AM A CABINET BUILDER THOUGH I AM ALSO FAIRLY WELL SCHOOLED IN METAL FABRICATION AND MACHINING.  I MADE THE MISTAKE OF LOOKING UP STEAM ENGINES ON E BAY A COUPLE YEARS AGO AND WAS QUICKLY AFFLICTED WITH STEAMITIS.  I HAVE A RATHER DIVERSE COLLECTION OF ENGINES COMPRISED OF GERMAN, BRITISH, AND AMERICAN MANUFACTURERS.  I WAS NEVER A FAN OF OSCILLATING ENGINES UNTIL I PURCHASED A FLAT BASE SE2 FROM IT'S ORIGINAL OWNER IN CANADA.  I NOW HAVE 4 BOWMANS, 1 MERCEY, AND AROUND 15 MAMODS.  I DON'T KNOW WHAT CAME OVER ME.   AT THE VERY TOP OF MY WISH LIST IS AN SE4.  (I MUST HAVE ONE SOME DAY). I HAVE LIMITED KNOWLEDGE OF THE BRITISH ENGINES SO HOPEFULLY THROUGH THIS FORUM AND THE KINDNESS OF IT'S MEMBERS, THIS WILL QUICKLY CHANGE.  I AM ATTACHING A COUPLE PHOTOS OF A BASKET CASE RESTORATION I DID THIS WINTER. CAN SOMEONE PLEASE TELL ME WHAT MODEL OF DOLL THIS IS?  SEVERAL SIMILAR MODELS HAVE SHOWN UP ON E BAY IN THE LAST YEAR BUT THEY WERE ALL SLIGHTLY SMALLER THAN THIS ENGINE AND DID NOT HAVE THE GUIDE (SUPPORT) UNDER THE CONNECTING ROD.  EVERYBODY HAVE A GREAT DAY

caps lock

Sorry about the caps,  I'll try and do better.  Thanks to tech drawing classes long before cad programs I was taught to write in caps.  It stuck in my brain and I always write in caps which makes me always type in caps.
steaminon

I call this engine the te1 alpha.  I'll post more photos later as I have to resize everything in my folders to post them.
nissan boy

WELCOME, from your neighbor to the east.

I take it you do REAL pin striping
steaminon

It's actually a te1, not a te1a.
Les

Pinstriping is very hard.  It seems like the harder you try to do a good job, the worse it turns out.   If you look at the striping on the old engines, none of it is perfect because it was all done by hand.  Practice on a piece of glass and then just wipe it off with a little thinner.  I also dip my brush in thinner before loading it with paint and that lets it flow out of the brush easier.   Use a very small brush,  at least 00

I absolutely love that engine.   You were very honest about it's condition and I was and still am very pleased with the whole deal.  Thanks for that one.

I'd say, seeing what you've shown thus far, that you've come to the right place! Don't think you really need to thank us all for the welcome, as we are all more than glad you have joined up. You will no doubt learn much from the many very knowledgeable folks here, but certainly we'll be learning much from you as well.

So Welcome, and glad to have you aboard!!!
