Newark show - first show of the year

Well this is proving hard!

Newark show is this weekend, and it's the 1st of the year. Only 5 or so Lincoln breeders are off thanks to bloody Europe and it's shitty blue tongue disease. Anyways, got tup lamb, Eric, and Lamby booked in. Eric and Lamby need to have the wool "Pulled out". That means you have to go through every single staple of wool on the sheep and seperate it. For an experienced shepherd it can take as little as... 4 hours

Anyways, it is NOT easy, and it's gonna be hard! I've took pics, and will post them ASAP along with pics at the weekend.

Wish me luck

johnreid

It is worth it James, I bet you win a Big Ribbon!
bessytractor

Graham-Jilly

Well you seem to have a head start on this pair...

They aint even talkin

Good Luck
pauly

as little as 4 hours    how do you get it to stand still that long.
James

Aye! Fine wool ones are the hardest to pull out, and the 1st one we attempted was a fine wool

Bought a gallon of Pig Oil at over £20 today
johnreid

So, you are having  a Greased Pig contest too!

sorry, couldnt resist
James

LOL Naa what you do is you pull it out, then wipe it all over with pig oil
James

Fetched the tups back yesterday, pulled out Eric and Lamby, bloody hell, what a job

Took about 9 hours collectively and I still ain;t happy with it

Stilldrillin

Well. ar...... That`s it!
James

LOL thought you'd like that
madeinenglang

sheep are all ways fun I used to live on a farm until last year I have been to a show or two I never new that it took so long to get them ready for the show
James

Oh aye! It's different with Lincolns, cos they're bred for wool that's what you've got to show off like.

whys that bodyless hand from the ADAMs family in the picture.
johnreid

Note he has no left arm in the photo, I bet that is what happened to iit.
James

Aye! I took it off like Mr Potato head and put it on the gimmer to hold her
pauly

that must be handy for your chores just put 1 arm next to the sink 1 arm next to your homework and you can do what you want all day just dont fall down because you wont be able to get up again and if your mam gives you an earfull take it off.
James

Here's some pics of "pulling out" before I go to bed!

pauly

reminds me of my head.
James

Well, umm.

That didn't go too well
James

Well this pic pretty much summed up today. The judge were cack, judged on size and not wool, which is stupid on a breed which has been bred for WOOL!

James

Loaded up:

While mother made the bacon butties, I headed off to see the steam!!

Teapot - 2nd weekend of steaming and me being there

Still got the original boiler from 112 years ago!!

Tup lamb!

Some of the Lincolns

Judging...

James

Still, got 3 rosettes, a third, fith and sixth

After some Lincolnshire Ale I soon cheered up

johnreid

Win or not, it looks like it was a great day. Lots of Steam, and your sheep too! I dont think you can beat that at all.
James

Aye mate! I've got to go back tomorrow aswell, were gonna stop in the Ifor Williams hotel tonight but thought I might as well come home.

If he were a wool judge, I'd have done better, and me tup lamb was born at least a month after the rest

Anyways, everyone always aims for Lincs as the big show, and this year the Americans are coming to judge, and they're big wool men
Les

Congratulations on winning and good pictures as well.
James

Winning? I wish

That'll take a few years

For anyone local I really recommend going, it's a good show, celebrating 125 years this year, BUT it's nowhere near as good as Lincs
pauly

you can cetainly tell your drunk in the last pic.
James

There were people stood watching me as if to say "wow, what a spanner"
James

Will take pics of this if I get chance tomorrow - Dancing JCBs

There's also a Dancing Doe (Triple D) tractor thingy aswell

I cant imagine why

sos you didnt win you should have set your sheep on the judges.
James

Seriously, we spent like 4 hours pulling Eric's wool out, and so did the rest of the breeders, bar one. The one which won had had nothing done to it, and looked scruffy as hell, just it was the biggest
steamgranny

Win some, lose some..........
At least there was some decent steam to save the day
James

True!

I've got pics of Mamods and stuff that I took yesterday, just uploading!
made-in-england

Looks like ye had a gooden jim!

The pictures of the Show look SOO much like my local rally! Cant wait for it! September
James

Mamods!!

I had to buy Lincolnshire made Lincolnshire Haslet, AND Lincolnshire made Lincolnshire stuffed chine (pig's shoulder stuffed with herbs!)

Teapot!

Never seen EIGHT DOe Triple D's in the same place before!

Oil engines

Me mate's living van (who's building mine)

Not looking too shabby!

Griffin

Nice pics James, the rosette's are coming along nicely.

The Triple D's are a rare sight on there own, let alone eight in one place
James

Aye mate! I were like

Went at about 10pm Sat morning and there were like 3 or 4, went back an hour or two later and there was eight
James

Not doing bad now, been to 3 shows, Newark, Woodhall Spa and Deeping and got 8 rosettes, 2 more shows to go
