Nice little Wilesco arrivedArrived today...must be a D4 or D5
With it came the original operating instructions (very old one from the 50's)
Also a half full old box of Esbit (inside also a couple of washers) + the old red Bakelite Wilesco funnel...
(And the models you can see in the "for sale" section)
Very nice old Wilesco, has the rarer 6-Spoked-Flywheel.
Also difference to the new models: Bakelite handle, other style safetyvalve (looks like from Fleischmann...or is it from Fleischmann???)
Burner stamped with the patent number.
Engine turns very smooth..will have a steaming soon
The only bad thing: someone soldered aound the whistle and the SV, but threads are okay and there is not too much solder.
So i polished it and left it as is

Yeah...i think that's the same model!
But your's seems to be a little later than mine.
See the crank and the screw that helds the piston on the mirror.
And of course your's is more tidy than mine

Agreed, yours appears to be heavier in build, a good thing.

Thanks
In real it even looks better, the cam makes all the small spots look more bad than they are
Already tested it with a handpump (i use the part of an old blood pressure apparatus) and it works good.
No rattle to hear
100% smooth running

I have run mine many times with Esbit and it is a real good little runner. I think that the smaller engines are often underrated.

Yes that's right.
Also, the early wilesco models (50's and 60's) with the grey bases had a LOT better machined cylinders and pistons...they run much more better than the models built now.

I would say no....nut can't say exactly.
The bearing blocks are screwed onto the baseplate as the cylinder is.
BUT the boiler and the firebox are not screwed, they are just stuck into the baseplate and then the ends are twisted.
Also, the steampipe is soldered in, and not screw-fixed

Soldered boiler fittings should mean it is a D6, the D5 being the kit.
I wish mine had the heavy connecting rod like yours. real nice feature. I do not think that they are far apart in years though.

Ah, that can't be
It came with its original instructions wich says : D4 and D5
So this instruction was used for the D4 and D5
And as it is a quite early wilesco i wonder, if they already had engine-kits in the 50's ???
......Can't say much about early wilescos

Today there is only the D5 ( kit ) and D6 ( Factory assembled )
Of course that was then and this is now. Things have changed.
