My collection of engines from NZ has finally arrived and I thought I might put up some pics over the next few weeks. Here is my square-based BriMo (made by Brian Moss). Brimo engines were made in Dunedin New Zealand in the 1960s (perhaps earlier) to the 1970s. I bought this one on NZ Trade Me. I was lucky as the seller attempts to repaint before he sells on trade me.
The quality is deceptive. The boiler is very heavy and made of thick copper and much heavier than the Mamod. I dropped a spring inside and couldn't get the end cap off (heated it until it was almost red hot!) – these things are on to stay! The flywheel is brass and the burner is interesting. Won't be repainting this one, but will give it a clean up.
For some reason, these square-based engines are sometimes sold on Trade Me as Meccano engines and I can’t help but wonder whether or not BriMo had some kind of relationship with Meccano.
There are also rectangular shaped engines made by Brimo and these appear regularly on Trade Me and go for a good price. They have a tray burner and the steam pipe is connected to the boiler via a union nut. Will put up a pic once the camera is operational again.

I like the look of that one.
If you cant get the boiler end caps off with it heated red hot it was probably silver soldered on and if so forget trying to get it off.
You should send some photos and details to the online bible as it could do with some more NZ engines on it.

Nice engine Stitch. I don't think I've ever seen one of those before.
It does have a solid look about it
