NZ made steam engine

Hi all

I recently picked up this Graham Craw made engine from New Zealand for an incredibly (I thought) cheap price.

It has a Cranko flywheel and engine frame. The boiler is heavy copper and the firebox is a rather light tin. Looks unfired and I can't wait to steam it up        Graham has made a number of number of different steam engines and I am very pleased with this one.

Wow, that is a real nice engine. Is it new or just unfired? I am normall not all that fond of Verticals, but really like that one.

Good question John. I bought it from Graham via Trademe. It was bigger than I thought it might be at 25cm tall

That's really nice. I like those verticals, and it looks solid.

I like the idea of Copper boiler too

That is very nice, well done, and it reminds me of a Wilson.

good looking little engine, will be nice to see it going!

Wow, that's nicely done. Who's Graham Claw? Any links to his creations?

Nice looking engine. I'm always partial to a vertical.

I don't know much about Graham Craw.  MacDonald's 'Spark, Spring and Steam', mentions that he ended up with some of Cranko stock and tooling once Crank ceased operations. Some of the later Cranko engines bear his touches. Friends in NZ inform me that he also had a shop in Auckland where he sold a range of steam toys and also made his own. From what I have seen, he made a range of different steam engines sometimes under the brand 'steamcraft'.

Manx has one of his mobiles.

The forum member "Cranko" would know much more about him than I.

I love my verticals, an interesting one to look out for, as I don't have any NZ engines in my collection yet.

I do believe he is in occasional contact with James and may decide to post again one day.
