My latest PurchaseJust picked this up today from a local antique shop.
They stuck it to me for $200 OZ but I think it was worth it.
Nah not really mine but a person I have emailed a few times.
It actually belongs to G&F Wilkinson of the ‘The Wilkinson Collection’
They recently acquired this for what I believe was a good price but don't know exactly as it was just 'found' in someones loft when they moved into the house.
How would you like to find one of these in your loft.

I'm sure he's already offered to buy it.

I got pics of it yesterday as well, somehow, with the size of his collection, I really don't think he'll want to sell it.
He also told me the same story about how he got it, just like MM with one of his.
Cheers

I knew you would appreciate it James as as Chris says they know exactly what it is and what it is worth and I would say you would find buying the crown jewels easier.

Here is a picture of it before the Wilkinsons got it!
I know the story and I know how much the owner sold it for. Contrary to any other stories that have been banded about it did not go directly to the present owners.
How do I know I can hear you cry, well I was involved in the Bidding war which broke out with the seller.
I do not know the owners personally but what I know of them is they do pay very very high prices for English engines, I and several of my friends have had bidding wars with them. It would seem no price is too high for something they want.
Fair play to them if they want to spend big and have the money why not. They have assembled a fine collection of engines

My word this one is in nice condition!

Thing that I've wondered is how many were actually made? even the bible contridicts itself i'm sure it does
Can't be many accounted for nowadays anyway!

As far as I know there are 6 have seen 5 there is possibly one more. I have it on good authority that three or four fakes were made up in the eighties, but none of the above are those.
Steve M is not sure how many were made and nor could his father, I asked him at STIA

Not really his era of Mamod I suppose. I doubt any production numbers were recorded either. They are always 'aprox' in the bible.
I'd imagine there are still a few in lofts around the country. Just got to wait and see if any turn up!

To be completely honest I would like to find on for a song at an antiques shop but I would go nowhere near one on ebay. The thrill of owning one for me is now long gone. I have spent so much time looking at my replicas and a real one that I could not justify spending hundreds of pounds on an original.
