Help PleaseOk Meccano is not my thing. And I so don't do Car Boot sales, which is why I found myself at the islands bi annual car boot sale yesterday.
Now I never buy anything, except this year I found a small bag of Meccano. I have a Bowman table saw without a pulley and figured the Meccano ones in the bag would do. So having parted with my £2.00 GBP, I put the bag in my pocket and thought nothing more till I got home.
Well, I've now found four pulley wheels and tyres to go with them, a small base plate and a few other interesting bits.
Now for the help bit. Also in the bag was this piece of paper. It does have print on both sides but I figure one side should be enough:
Can you date Meccano from the paper work?
Any idea how big this set would have been in the beginning?
Thanks, Manx

It says on the paper that it's for set No.2, which was one of the smaller sets. Here's a link that shows a picture of a set 2 from 1949. The contents may have changed slightly at different dates.

I'd guess that paper is from the fifties or early sixties... probably.

What colour is the Meccano as that will atleast date it to a decade or so?

Ok, flat plates are a nice deep red. Long thin arms (with single line of holes are all in bottle green). Tyres are black and brass bits, are brass and have Meccano, Made in England, printed on them.
Does that help?

not for set 2. Page is out of a book/leaflet for a no 1 set the page you have scanned is a teaser page from the back of the book to entice you to buy the next set up .and if you read the fine print it says "now you have made all the models shown in this book blah blah your next step is to but 1a to convert your set 1 to set 2.
If you check my web site you can look at the meccano cars to see what color best matches your bits

Thanks and a great help. That's a great website you're building there. Well looking at your photos, I'd say the bits I have are from 1945 - 1958.
Does that fit with the page from the leaflet I have?

the above links show no 1 set the difference between them is mainly the fact that the holes in early ones (RED) are round and in the later ones (RED) some on the ends are oval. i have here in front of me a no 2 manual 1957.2 and those pictures you posted are there in it.
you usually date a manual from the front cover ie on the cover of this one it has 57.2 meaning 1957 set 2 hope this helps. as for my site I am not happy with it yet as i think it needs alot of fine tuning.
