why are jensens so expensivewhy are jensens so expensive I know theyve got build quality but they are still really expensive
|
Nick

You can get used ones for about $30 to $40.
I think all steam engines are expensive new.
|
Nick
|
Are you looking at buying one?

yeah but for something like a model 25 your looking at just under $400 which roughly translates into £200
I could get a mamod sp5d for about £100. £200 seems a like a lot to me

I would like 1 but with the high prices and shipping over to england being pretty expensive its just a dream at the moment
|
Nick
|
Watch for a used one, you can get one for under $100.
The Mamod guys won't be happy with me, but I say go for the Jensen.

If I were you, I would go for a used 75. That way you don't have to worry about the electric heater.
|
Nick
|
The model 25's are only about $200 new, or about 100 pounds.
|
pauly

the problem is they dont turn up to often on english evil-bay
|
Nick

Watch US ebay, several will do worldwide shipping. Maybe you'll find a good deal.

my parents whos account I use will not buy from overseas this is my problem my only real hope is that someone on this forum sells 1 at a good price
If you go through my other posts youll notice my parents almost always present an obstackle if only there was some way I could get rid of them

That's because they are mounting it on a wood-base and you get a much nicer generator.
That generator alone sells for about $115.

dont you think thats a bit much
|
Nick

Not for a new price.
I got the generator used, for just under $70 and I think they sell it at a very fair price.

is it just me or are wilesco models very similair
some are almost identical except for that wooden base
|
Nick
|
I own both and I feel the Jensen has a much better build quality.
The Wilesco boilers are very thin.
|
pauly
|
I mean just in appearance its uncanny
|
Nick
|
All of the different steam companies seem to have similarities that they borrowed from eachother over the years.
|
Nick
|
I have a very early model 60, look how similar the base is to a Wilesco one:
|
pauly
|
WOW
hey why is there a screw in the end instead of a water plug
|
Nick
|
That's just the way it was made. It has been confirmed by the forum Jensen experts they were made this way.
It also doesn't have a regulator on the steam line.
One member suggested that Jensen may have bought bases from Wilesco when they started making this model.

I have actually worked on restoring it. I removed the pitted nickel to show the brass.
I got busy and stopped working on it about a month and a half ago.

In Australia we say, 'Why are Mamods so expensive'
Jensens are cheap in OZ copared to Mamods as the Jensen dealer sells them as they are intended, toys, whilst the Mamod dealer in Australia sells them as collectable items not toys and so makes them more expensive.
Its cheaper to buy a Mamod from the UK new and pay for the postage to OZ then to by a new one in the shops here.

well you see over here its the school holidays and because Im not having to wake up early and am lyng in till 1pm I have messed up my internal clock and am not falling asleep until 3am so the only way I can get back to my normal sleeping pattern is to stay awake all night and day intil the next night when I will be able to go to sleep at a decent time the reason I said Id been awake for 48 hours was because Im so tired I keep getting mixed up Im up Im up
this is the third night I have tried to stay awake all night the only way I can do it is if I stay out of my bedroom and away from my comfy and tempting bed
