SEL Minor

Recently i bought a SEL Minor from moose, well a few weeks after that i bought another (i know its greedy   ) from stilldrillin for a nice tidy sum.  It needed a bit of work on it. Base was the wrong colour and the firebox paint came of on your fingers like an art pastel. Apart from that the brass needed a good clean.

here she is before during and after

Excellent work Lew and a shrewd investment.

I'm most impressed mate.
Les

What a transformation, well done.  Thumbs up!
Steve_S

Nice job Lewis... that's much better!
tmuir

Much better.
As a side note you could probably restore the black to the brass name plate by painting the whole plate black and then using some 600 W&D on a flat surface and gently rub back the paint until the brass came through and finish with some car polish to shine up the black.
Lewis

Cheers guys

I've got the main tank part of a spare burner but it's missing the wick holder. If you can find a wick holder from somewhere, you're welcome to the tank.

Hey Lewis, your little SEL Minors have inspired me. I might try to make something
like it. But I'm not clear on that bolt over the firebox opening. Does it secure the boiler?
If so, how? Any one know of any other pics on the forum of a disassembled SEL minor?
oldstuff

Oops, found it myself in Mamodman123's "SEL Trio" thread in Restorations!
Glad MM does detailed restos,

Yes, Chuck. There is a small eyelet tab fixed to each end of the boiler. The tab is located outside of the firebox and a self tapping screw screws into a small hole in the firebox.
