Always have a calculator handy..... The magic number is 25.4.....
1" divided by 16 = .0625" ....... x 25.4 = 1.587mm
Any measurement (metric or imperial), multiply or divide by 25.4, to give the conversion......
Worked daily for me, for the last 30yrs, (after I got me 1st calculator).

Another ferinstance.......
13/16" to metric.
1 divide by 16 x 13 = .8125 x 25.4 = 20.375mm.
17mm to imperial.
17 divided by 25.4 = .669"
Easy!
