HelloHello AllGreat site you have here! My name is Rick. I go by the screen name rake60 on several other forums. I've been a machinist by trade for about 30 years and found out that it can be a relaxing hobby at home building small scale steam engines from bar stock. Howdy from Oregon!! No machinist in my house, I am a poor soul with a file or two, a drill press, a scroll saw, and a Dremel and a cheap Harbor Freight digital caliper.... 
But I have a dreamy mind ... and I like to play in the shop and I try to absorb things from you good, methodical, rule following types. I need to hang out with craftsman all I can..... it is like osmosis Hopefully!

Mo you have everything it takes to build a running steam model
engine. My very first running engine was built completely with a drill press and a dremel tool.

My life goal is to remove the "black magic" image of home machining model building.
There is no magic there! If you own a hacksaw and somehting like a drill press that is capible of spinning a chunk of stock, you can make a running engine. It's a dying craft/hobby. One that i'm not willing to allow to die without a fight! It was our young Sir James that drew my personal fight to save that craft to this forum. James you've gone head to head with some pretty big guns and never flinched. Never give an inch son! (or 25.4MM)
