Those Monahan Engines are pieces of Art, I have enjoyed looking at them on various sites.

I've noticed that marine engines always seem to be on that type of aluminium base......does anyone know a source of this, or even what that shape is called?
The detail on that engine is stunning......twin lubricators, and the valve is just a thing of beauty. SO quiet as well!

Ohhhhh! It's like a swiss watch! an incredible piece of engineering. Hats off to Nick of Monahan models.

that's going to push plenty of boat!
I think that the aluminium base spoils the appearance though; why go to the trouble of cladding the gas tank etc. when it's sitting on something that looks entirely out of period? I must me missing something, since I know i'm green to this.

Try using a kick plate off a door and cut it to size and then bend the sides slightly. Most DIY superstore should stock them.

Hey thanks everyone!
Your positive feedback makes all the time and work put into each of these models all worth it.
Cheers,
Nick
P.S. The base for the steam plants is actually made of stainless steel that has a grained finish on it. This base holds all the components in place so that the copper plumbing doesn't get tweaked in shipping and parts do not get scratched from banging into each other.. Also most modelers use these steam plants in radio controlled boats, so the convenience of being able to remove the whole steam plant in one shot since its mounted all on a common base is a real time saver. Hope this helps.

Cheddar Models provided their engines with brass base plates. But like the one seen here these were not fully contained, so you needed to add extra wings to those open sides to have a proper drip tray effect. Occasionally come up on ebay.
A beautiful steam plant here. Thanks for sharing the URL.
Sadly well out of my price range, and we have VAT & Shipping to add on top as well!
