'ow do'

'Ow do' fellow steam enthusiasts I found this site whilst searching for spares for a TE1a. Must admit I’m impressed…The names Andy and I live ‘up int thills of Owdham’ ….suppose I’ve always had an interest in steam although the TE1a is my first engine since I was bought a TE1 as a Christmas present waaaaaaay back in 1964 . It will be my first shot at restoring. I can see everyone is very helpful and I have already picked up a few great tips. So looking forward to reading your posts and getting some expert advice.

Cheers Andy.

You're not wrong there Chris, just lightened my wallet by purchasing an SE2 to sit alongside the TE1a...thats two in the same week.

No rush Andy!

Hopefully the following will help

) How do I upload pictures?

You need to set up an account at http://photobucket.com/
Once you do, upload your photos there.
Once your pics are uploaded to photobucket you will see thumbnails of your pics
Click on the bit that says IMG Code below the thumbnail of the pic you wish to upload to here
It will automatically copy the link by clicking on the IMG code, then just paste it in your message that you want the pic in (by pressing Ctrl V)
Do the exact same for vids.

Well here they are....Mi first engines, the TE1a really does not want a lot doing to her..I've replaced a couple of washers and the o ring on the safety. The front axle was falling out so i've secured that and fitted the front spring which was missing. She also requires a level plug (just a normal flat head screw in there at the moment). Have steamed her up and she runs well, don't know if I should paint the canopy or not as it's slightly discoloured and has been touched up in a couple of places. Other than that i've just cleaned her up.
The SE2 is as bought, when I steamed her though a few very small holes showed up in the boiler end cap...i've run some solder over them...not a brilliant job (think I need some practice) but anyway it's stopped the leaks. Don't know if any of you guys have had the same problem with boiler end caps..have I done the right thing ?

IndianaRog

Hi Ironbridge,

You have a couple of classic examples there. From the looks of your TE I think most folks would recommend against repainting the roof as at least from the pics it looks in relatively good shape.

The SE boiler pin hole leaks are something seen from time to time, I will leave it to a few of the other experts who have fixed these things before.

Again, thanks for sharing your photos,
cheers,
Roger
James

Wow!

They are really really nice!
Mamodman123

A great couple of engines there IB!

I would definatly leave the TE1a as is, looks to be in good condition, steam and enjoy it

Now the pin hole leaks in the SE2a. This has been known to happen (luckily not to me).

Usually what would be done is you would remove the end cap and silver solder from the inside. Then soft solder the end cap back on. Thus blocking the holes and making it steam tight again. The way you did it is fine if you aren't comfortable attempting end cap removal.

If you do wish to try, check out the soldering guide in the steam library for starters

Anyway, a great couple of engines, very popular and good runners now i'm sure
