Do they also sell engines at an event like this?

I was wondering how toy shows are in other parts of the world, because over here steam engines are priced about 3 times their value. I went to one show to find an engine and that was it. The first one I found, I was shocked at the price. The lady goes, "Well, what would you pay for it then?" I looked and said something like, "I wouldn't want to insult you," and walked away. The rest of the prices were the same.

The only place for me to find reasonable prices are ebay and small town antique shops where the people actually know the value of the engines.
tmuir

I've never been to STIA mainly due to the fact I live on the other side of the world    but from what people were saying of last years event there were some great bargains to be had there and several people here got some great deals. I'm sure there was also a fare share of over priced engines but in the UK you can still get toy engines for good prices especially the British ones obviously.
Wilescoman_123

there was a wilesco d28 for £100 wish i had brought it !
Steve_S

There are some bargains to be had at STIA, but you have to be quick before James snaps them up.
James

LOL!!

I got some rate deals last year!!
johnreid

I hear tell that James comes with a Sheep Trailer just to haul home his bargains
James

LMAO!

Dad said:

"I int tekkin tha bluddy gret tree-aler furr Lester meyart! We waint git thee-r til 5!"
Steve_S

No doubt.
James

LOL!!

You ain;t gonna be able to tell a word I say at STIA are you?
steamyjim

If i babble on about cider and the wurzels ignore me
James

Aye but I can understand you at a push
CCairns

Yes that is the big problem with visiting STIA as a member of the public - all the exhibitors have snapped up the good bargains before you can get in the gate!

I've been twice now and it's a mad dash to the traders stalls as soon as the gate opens - also do not take Scottish money as that can cause problems - I missed out on a Mamod loco whilst the trader checked with his boss if they would accept Scottish £20 notes.
Lewis

arr cant wait for it now

get there early and get some nice engines
fcrammond
