Hmm - interesting. Apparently, the city of Bristol gained county status back in the middle ages and retained that status until it was incorporated into Avon - an unpopular move which didn't last long. It has now regained it's county status, situated between Somerset and Gloucestershire.

MM- most oddly thats where Gloucestershire play most of their county cricket, in the middle of Bristol,
bit like Some of Birmingham was in Worcestershire, but Warwickshire play in Birmingham- all confusingly straightforeward.
me dad was born in Kemerton, which has moved from Worcs to Glos and back 3 times in his life

Yorkshire is the biggest county, but it's split up into loads of lumps.
Lincolnshire is in 2 lumps, so is therefore the bigger county
