Marklin 4161/94/11This is by far the largest steam engine in my collection, the Marklin 4161 built between 1923 -1928. Marklin produced two sizes of this model, both available with or without a dynamo. Unlike other german engines if you bought the engine without the dynamo you couldn't fit one later as the engine bed was a different shape. This version was fitted with a dynamo but is now missing. Both versions were fitted with
Twin double action cylinders
feed-pump
and a governor.
the boiler is fitted with a pressure gauge, lever safety valve, whistle, sight glass, and feed-pump control.
It was fired with a twin vapourising burner.
This version is the largest produced and had a retail price in 1923 of £150.00.
When first found in 2000 it was dismantled and covered in 20 years of dirt and dust. It took a good week to clean and rebuild.
We hope in the future to fit a new boiler as the old brass boiler has cracked.
Does any one out there have any spare parts!!!!! we do have the governor and hope to fit it soon!!!!!

nice marklin...a pitty it is uncomplete
I know a guy in germany who makes spareparts, also for marklin.
But you engine requires a lot, so unfortunately this will cost a lot of $$$ to get it completed in short time

It should have two cylinders but sadly one of them was removed by the last owner and lost.
From what I am told the last owner bought the engine complete but dismantled it for parts and left It in this sad condition

Wow that will be a nice engine to get going but looks like a serious project to fully restore.
Good luck with it.

The bracket was added later by the last owner. It appears he cut the handrail in front to make space. Sadly his two son's ran the boiler dry and he converted it to run on compressed air. A sad ending for a steam engine
At this moment only two other Marklin 4161's of this size are known to exist, one in Germany in complete condition and one non working in America.
I haven't seen another in England yet!!!
